Hey guys, I'm currently running a GTX 670 and am planning to upgrade to a 1070, should to upgrade any of these as well?

[CPU+Mobo] i5 3450 + ASROCK Z77 PRO3
[RAM] G.Skill DDR3 1333Mhz CL9 (4GB*2)
[PSU] TP 550W 80+ GOLD Non Modular

All packed into a NZXT 410.
Thinking that the i5 3450 might be getting too old liao.. any recommendations for an upgrade that would be compatible with my mobo? Planning to also get the BenQ xl2411z and play at 1080p 144Hz :D

Old? Ok ma. Unless your running the 1st gen i5 series that 1 maybe still can consider old

Got some comments on reddit that the i5 3450 would bottleneck the 1070 while others said that I'd be fine, so wanted to get more opinions here.. wallet gonna have big hole soon, since I'm planning to get a 1070 and a XL2411Z on top of it with my lousy NSF pay :s13:

Your CPU should be fine but an upgrade will not be expensive. i7-3770 or i7-3770K (best chips for your MB) is about $240 or $250 second-hand. You can sell the i5-3450 for about $100 or $110 which makes for an incremental cost of about $150 max.

I'm running a 2500K with a GTX1080, albeit overclocked but still, definitely not too old. :s22:

Instead of going for a 144hz monitor I'd suggest you look at 2k or Ultrawide monitor. The immersion is worth it IMO. :)

Hahaha bro I was looking at your listed setup with the 2500k and GTX1080 when I saw one of your comments recently, considered asking you how your CPU was fairing with your GPU :s13:

Anyways I've been having an internal debate regarding 1440p 60fps vs 1080p 144Hz ever since I decided on upgrading my rig.. but decided that playing on 1440p might be too taxing for my wallet in the future as I can't stand anything below 60fps, at least for the 144Hz monitor even if I'm not getting >100fps on games it'd be much easier to run with the lower resolution :D

considering an upgrade since my CPU cant oc and especially since I'm intending on playing at >100fps on all my games :D

would upgrading to either of the two bring about noticeable improvements? thinking that it's silly to get the 1070 if my CPU would be bottlenecking it, but then I'm trying rly hard to avoid getting a new mobo+cpu combo because of the $ and trouble that comes with it :s22:

Curious how have you gotten a non-K CPU with Z77 motherboard back then. :s11:

This benchmark is tested against a GTX 980 Ti, slightly weaker than GTX 1070...

Some improvement but not much. It depends on the games you play.

this was my very first gaming rig that I looked to fortran for building way back, went full retard and told him I didn't intend on overclocking my CPU since I had no experience doing so, thus didn't need a K CPU.. :s22:

Alright, got plan liao.. will continue sitting on my GTX670 for another month or two (third month ORD lo), decide between the 1070 and 480, get the XL2411Z, see performance from there then decide if I should go ahead with getting a 3770k OC'ed..

If after buying a 1070/480 and 144Hz monitor still unable to achieve >100fps due to bottlenecking then like kinda stupid ah :s22:

RX480 vs GTX 1070 is a tad too far off though....

Here's another benchmark to give you a peace of mind:

Hi, im running a i2500k too and was still wondering if i should just go straight for the Palit GTX 1080 Super JetStream because im also worried about the CPU bottlenecking the performance. I already aiming on getting this DELL U2515H to game on 1440P.

or maybe i should settle for my initial plan which is to get the DELL monitor plus the MSI GTX970 Gaming 4GB but its only 3.5GB usable which im not too sure if it can last long enough for future games.

No point getting the GTX 970 unless you can get it cheap. Either Pascal or Polaris depending on your budget.

like all others say :D

well if u have the budget just go for 1080 or 1070 since both are good for 1440p monitors.

next in line can go for RX 480 8GB@399

Game play or Game performance more important?

Game play - RX480

Game performance - 1070/1080

Both - 1070/1080

How come you're paired with a z77 board? :s22: Anyway overclock your 2500k to 4ghz if you're on stock cooler. No issues on bottlenecking unless you're aiming high fps (>100fps). I'm running on a 3440x1440 monitor and I'm hitting 2-3fps lower than a 5960x system. :)

yup. that's what my heart is 'poisoning' me too.

4Ghz!!! I can try though now its clocked to 3.7Ghz on Thermaltake Water 3.0 cooling.

Yes. i may consider GTX1070 too if MSI's pricing is right for me. RX480 is also a choice but i always feel that reference cooler is not good enough cooling power. hehe
