Hi all IT experts!

What would be a good 4k curved monitor that is under 1k and comparable to the iMac retina displays? Anyone can recommend a few models to compare?

Not sure if there is a reason to go for curved monitors though. Based on my personal opinion, I don't think its a useful feature, especially the premium for a curved screen.

Or wait 3-5 years, lol.

The imac 5K has a pixel density of 218ppi, btw. The only real equivalent would be the Dell UP2715K (S$2.6K)? Dunno if there are any other alternatives yet.

As long as you're not expecting to pixel-peep, you can increase your viewing distance, possible to get by with lower density.

Given a large enough viewing distance, all displays eventually become "retina."

Hmm i guess what's most important to me would be the budget. Plus minus $1k

havent watched the youtube video (office blocks it) but can you briefly describe what you want?

I personally find the iMac Screens pretty bad. Its glossy and its bezels are too damn thick. Granted the 5k display is sweet but...and this is a HUGE but, there aren't much 5k content available. So my friend uses 4k wallpapers upscaled. There are also barely any movies at 4k. And gaming at 4k requires...lets get to that another time.

Also, how far are you sitting from your screen? Why do you want a curved monitor. To answer the whys, PPI or "retina" depends not on pixel density but on sitting distance from said display. If you are sitting 40 cm away and you want a 27" you need prob 1440p. If you are more than 80 cm away you can make do with 1080p at 27". If you are sitting 3m away you can make do with 55" 1080p.

I find that curved monitors offer no tangible benefits. Yes, sitting 60cm from a 34" ultrawide requries a curve and IPS panels to see the edges without colour loss. But the IPS glow from these monitors will affect the image quality anyways

Isn't a glossy screen nicer? I sit only about an arm's length away from the screen

make sure your monitor is not facing the window then else you will be constantly looking at yourself like a mirror through the monitor.

Yes...and no.

Yes because it makes the screen appear to have higher contrast and clarity (a huge plus)

No because depending on where you put your light in the room, you will get any and all sorts of reflections. The only way to counter the reflections is...brighter screens.

So in all fairness, its your choice. But the high end (more expensive) monitors usually come with Matte display coatingsfor more generic multi purpose use

Hmmm so do you have any curved monitors you could recommend? It need not be glossy :)

I guess more importantly would be the budget of below $1k and the quality of display (4K perhaps?)

What it means is that you cannot have all of your criteria in one monitor. There are 4k monitors under 1k but they are not curved and are TN panels. When you want something, you have to give up another.

You want a retina-quality, curved 4k monitor under a thousand bucks. Good luck.
