Thinking of getting from Aftershock custom build PC for above specific to replace my 14 years old PC.
Please advise above specific and price is okay or not. I am using for normal home work and not for gaming.

this is a very poor value combo, even in the current gpu market. if u are certain on getting aftershock, can look at their ready to ship page for far better deals (eg ryzen 5 3600 + 6600xt for the same price). i would recommend that u get their office essentials amd build, which is not only small and compact but also a lot cheaper and suits ur needs a lot better, especially since u mentioned that u likely wont be gaming.

For a non gaming PC, this is overkill spec in term of memory speed, cpu cooler, & PSU.

I suggest Apple Mac mini M1.
Can get the base model for around $900 with free Apple AirPods 2 from Apple Education store. if sell off the AirPods plus some credit card discount here and there the cost is only about $750 there?

I wonder how did AS determine this is a "premium range" motherboard when this is an ultra budget range motherboard. And I wonder can the H410 chipset support Rocket Lake? I recall only H470 and Z490 works, and this is further confirmed by the specs listed on Asrock's site. A motherboard of this class is unlikely to allow the 11400 to perform at optimal level.

The ASROCK H410M HDV M.2 cost around $100, it is a cheap motherboard.
If for normal use, WFH or HBL is OK but gaming wise is no no.
I also don't understand why AS use this mobo, can opt for a better motherboard
with Wifi.
They also include the Gigabyte wifi card so why can't just use a mobo that have wifi
around $200?

SSD is not a good one so this AS build is for suitable for normal use than gaming.
However overprice in my opinion since it's parts most are for value than performance.

Easy to dupe people who don't know the first thing about computers I guess. Same as Sim Lim stores recommending "normal" unbranded PSUs aka fire hazards. Its bizarre that the CPU isn't even officially supported though.

Cheap motherboard does affect performance especially the VRM/Power delivery it uses.
Depending what CPU you are using on cheap motherboard, not all CPU can run optimally

This is the exception rather than the rule though, it's fair to say that for every chipset up to B560 (which is not being used in this build), performance isn't affected by the motherboard.

I'm sure someone would have made a video about H410 or H510 if they had similar issues.

Its pretty much an exclusively Intel B560 issue where this comes into play with mid-range CPUs.

You mean B560 is different. There's not been performance differences for mid-range Intel or AMD CPUs caused by motherboards at least over the last a decade or so therefore, like I said, B560 is the exception rather than the rule.

And that seems to have been caused by the manufacturers applying different limits rather than an actual chipset limitation.

I don't necessarily agree that cheap boards are inherently less reliable either, cheap boards tend to be in cheap cases with poor airflow and used with cheap power supplies and therefore it would be hard to draw fair comparisons.

Personally I've seen zero difference in reliability between low-end motherboards like this Asrock and mid-range motherboards costing twice the price despite the low-end board working in much harder conditions.

It would make for an interesting experiment though, two identical PCs apart from motherboard in the same house and seeing if the high-end board truly lasts longer and by how long.

h410 is literally the lowest end chipset for lga1200. if manufacturers are already differentiating performance between budget and premium boards with the same midrange chipset, i dont see why they would do otherwise with respect to even cheaper boards. this is before accounting for the fact that they generally also use cheaper vrm configurations and less robust vrm cooling for such cheaper boards (no heatsink on the asrock h410 hdv at all), which could lead to further performance regression should the cpu prove too powerful for the board to handle.

most reviewers who do those kinds of reviews usually dont touch on these kinds of extreme budget boards. if im not mistaken board partners dont provide review samples for these low end boards to reviewers, so there is even less incentive for them to cover such boards. most videos about h410 generally only use 1 board for a pc build or a game benchmark, rather than looking at a wide range of available h410 boards. granted, it is also noted in those videos that the performance difference in gaming is not that great as seen in prolonged workloads, but who wants to buy products which leave performance on the table?

Because H410 was released with B460, earlier than B560. There wasn't this nonsense with B460. The cheaper VRM generally comes into play with the most powerful CPUs with high TDPs though, like the higher end i7s and i9s. Very few people are gonna use a $700 CPU with a $70 motherboard.

And while it's not ideal, it's still perfectly usable as seen here:

The problem with the 'good' B560 boards is that they cost so much. I guess the question is that money worth the performance loss?

$70-80 is 1/3rd the price of an i5 10400.

Its making me reconsider going Intel for my next upgrade, it just doesn't add up once the motherboard starts costing $200 to make full use with a $250 CPU and there's still no overclocking at that price range.

That's a far cry from the time I got an entry level i5 and Z77 board new for 300+ bucks back in 2013. Now it's a whole 50% more.

@wtfh4x, I do not know what is your argument is about.
If you are arguing that budget works fine with most CPU.
However take note of the TDP of CPU, budget boards can handle CPU with TDP of 65 watts.

Any higher than 65 watts, a better board would be recommended.
A better board cost around $200 - $300, better components better reliable so won't
fail so easily.

Is $200 - $300 for a motherboard a lot? I don't think so, to RMA a motherboard can take a month or so.

Previous gen which I still have, the combo you brought maybe a Intel i5 4460 with budget z77 board.
Depending on chipset, Intel Z chipset are way expensive than H or B series.
PS if you feel expensive you can go for AMD instead.
