Hi all, been super long since I enter the scene for custom make PC.

Can recommend me parts for custom make? I am looking at the budget between 1.5k ~ 1.8k excluding KBM and monitor.

Would prefer if I can play games like Witcher 3 at the highest graphic settings (without AA etc.)

TIA!

would'nt a 4460/b85 combo suffice for gaming with a 980ti for someone who wants to game well but without the additional cost? or is it just your opinion?

A 980ti with i5, b85 and value rams sure perform much better than a 970 with i7 x99 ddr4 setup in gaming terms.

Yes, it is my opinion.

And if you want to talk about game well without additional cost - 1080p gaming with 980Ti, seriously? That's one big additional cost with hardly felt tangible benefit.

ah ok. must differentiate fact and opinion as uninformed forumers here might be mistaken and misled. :)

Cos tbh 980Ti isn't something cheap, and those who are actually buying these hardware are loaded or well-do in a way or another. Users of this category are going for numbers, performance and I'm sure aesthetics too, at least at the basic level. So hooting a top end GPU then skimp on all other components to force on an average budget looks just.. weird to me. Plus his monitor is 1080p, so... :s22:

If he wants to play Witcher 3 at highest settings on 1080p with a little bit of future buffer I'd rather recommend a 390X. 970 might choke on next gen AAA games max settings.

That would bring down the cost of his rig towards the lower end range of his budget. That's significant savings without compromising his gaming experience cos 980Ti not much benefit over 390X at 1080p even for AAA games and we are talking about over $200 difference here.

I'm using a 27" monitor for 1080p gaming..

Thanks!

Hmmm, 980ti is overkill for 1080p gaming imho.
However, it will provide you some 'future proofing' and play upcoming AAA games with highest setting. It will also give you the flexibility to upgrade to 1440p gaming if you want.

However, if your looking to meet your requirements and minimise costs, you can go for 970. Do note that given its 3.5GB+0.5GB ram, you might not be able to play next generation AAA games on highest settings. Would rec. going 390X for the 8GB ram.

my 2 cents!

I do not recommend people with 1080p monitor to be running a any of the top tier cards offered by either green or red camps.

The max one should go is just a r9 390 instead of 970/980.

Ok lets factor out 390x and 980. Cause this 2 gpu price segment is totally neither here nor there.

So lets look at just 970 and 390 for a 1080p experience.

Here is my recommendations.

ASRock B85 Pro 4 + i5-4460 ~ $327
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz Value Ram ~ $67
WD Blue 1tb ~ $69
Samsung EVO 850 250gb ~ $171
MSI R9 390 8gb Twin Frozr Gaming Edition ~ $559
Superflower Leadex 650w 80+ Gold Fully Modular PSU ~ $149
Fractal Design Arc Midi ~ $115
LG DVD Drive ~ $21
Windows 8.1 OEM 64bit ~ $34 (g2a.com)

Total ~ $1512. Buy at tradepac. DIY

hi all, thanks for the suggestions and opinion! I won't rule out going 1440p gaming in the future, but may wait until my current monitor give way first.m

I wouldn't mind high end gpu as long as other component doesn't bottleneck. If possible I would rather go for components that may be more future proofs for upgrades in the future.

There isnt a thing about futureproof in a PC DIY components. Just buy what you need for now. In future, by the time you think about getting a 1440p or you get the most top tier GPU right now in market will be obsolete by the time you think for a 1440p monitor or higher res. So just buy whatever caters to your current needs.

So long as you are running a 1080p games, just go for mid high end segment gpus such as the 970, 390.
