There isnt a thing about futureproof in a PC DIY components. Just buy what you need for now. In future, by the time you think about getting a 1440p or you get the most top tier GPU right now in market will be obsolete by the time you think for a 1440p monitor or higher res. So just buy whatever caters to your current needs.

So long as you are running a 1080p games, just go for mid high end segment gpus such as the 970, 390.

i will be building a system soon and now i'm stucked between 390 and 970, which one will be a more sensible route?

hi all, thanks for the suggestions and opinion! I won't rule out going 1440p gaming in the future, but may wait until my current monitor give way first.m

I wouldn't mind high end gpu as long as other component doesn't bottleneck. If possible I would rather go for components that may be more future proofs for upgrades in the future.

The thing about 'future proofing' is that no one can be certain. Getting a higher end GPU might provide you some buffer, but it might also become obsolete even within a year or less.

If your not set on 1440p anytime soon, i would suggest you go for 970 or 390 as roy recommended. 390 would be the better choice cause of the 8gb ram while 970 is limited to the 3.5+0.5gb ram config.

390 will be a much more sensible route.

8gb Vram and yet no slouch either. And the current 390 isnt like back in those days when 290 were launch. Back then the 290 is not as fast as the 970.

So after the rebadged, it is slightly lesser power draw, more clocked, faster in most scenarios. This would be a better choice over the 970.

OC headroom also is no slouch either.

Awesome. If that case I will go for this build:

ASRock B85 Pro 4 + i5-4460 ~ $327
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz Value Ram ~ $67
WD Blue 1tb ~ $69
Samsung EVO 850 250gb ~ $171
MSI R9 390 8gb Twin Frozr Gaming Edition ~ $559
Superflower Leadex 650w 80+ Gold Fully Modular PSU ~ $149
Fractal Design Arc Midi ~ $115
LG DVD Drive ~ $21
Windows 8.1 OEM 64bit ~ $34 (g2a.com)

Total ~ $1512. Buy at tradepac. DIY

Was thinking should I get the PSU and SSD from Lazada. Or better to just get from tradepac and ask for discount?

Oh ya. I would prefer getting Nvidia cards over Radeon due to some bad experience with Radeon in the past. Has Radeon cards caught up?

In certain categories, yes.

In top tier, not yet.

You still be fine in either camps, just that if you based on your budget at that range, 390 is then a better buy over 970.

Note that 970 do have issues on 3.5gb VRAM and 0.5gb VRAM. You might run into certain games on 1080p that might cause it over the 3.5gb VRAM and may cause stuttering as they are trying to clear up the memory.

So in this case, 390 would still be a better choice.

hijack the thread. got some qustions to ask experts here.

1. is MSI H97 GAMING 3 mobo only support RAM up to 1600MHz? if I plug 2x4GB 1866MHz RAM, it will be no issue but capped at 1600MHZ? am i right?

2. if i only buy mobo+cpu, HDD and GPU at Tradepac. do they charge me more than the price on their pricelist?
