Hi guys,

I am new to customised pc and was wondering if you guys could provide some thoughts on the below specs that i have shortlisted? Mainly use for general and gaming purposes (FPS (such as Battlefield 4, Planetside 2 etc) and MMORPG (WoW, Rift etc)). Hoping that this spec could last me for at least 2 years. anyway can always buy separate components whenever needed. I think these components are compatible.

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4GHz (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)
Mobo Asus: Z97-PRO Wifi Ac
RAM: G-Skill Rip Jaw X 1600 CL9 (2*8GB)
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO SSD 250 GB
HDD: SEAGATE 2TB 7200R 64M SATA3
Optical Drive: SAMSUNG 24X SATA DVDRW OEM
GPU: Gigabyte GTX980 Reference GDDR5 4GB
CPU Heatsink + Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Case: Cooler Master HAF X 942 Advance Full-Tower
PSU: SeaSonic G-750 SSR-750RM 80+ Gold Modular PSU
Monitor: H236HL LED Acer

thanks a lot!!

Looks like a solid build, are you going to overclock? do you really need the i7? Any reason you went for seagate? IMO WD is more reliable. Seasonic is a good brand for PSU, note that the G series is semi modular.

thanks Taveren. yes i intend to overclock.

there is no particular reason for choosing seagates. i could go for WD 2TB 64MB (GREEN) SATA3 if WD is more reliable. both are very similar in price.

i am not sure what's the difference between semi vs full modular. i got the recommended list from Logical Increments - Enthusiast tier with some modifications. I assume this goes well with the build?

If you are overclocking, please consider a better CPU cooler such as Noctua NH-D14/D15 or a Cryorig R1. then the gap in price becomes very small compared to AIO liquid cooling so I recommend considering an AIO liquid cooler such as Corsair or Cooler Master.

From HDD, most of the guys here recommend a WD Red or Purple for mass storage. you can also consider the Blue but avoid the Green.

Semi-modular means the important cables are attached to the PSU and the rest of the cables you can choose to attach when needed.

Full Modular means all cables are detachable. basically you choice of Seasonic G-750W is a good choice because it is a 80+ gold rating.

You may want to consider the MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G for the non reference cooler as it provides better cooling than the reference cooler.

Semi or non modular is all cables are not plug friendly (cables are glued to psu)

Modular is all cables can be dismantled. (Good for space constraint.)

Actually if i were you. A 3k setup can do better if you drop your idea on i7 and a ASUS board.

There is still some things like the SSD could get a Crucial Mx100 256gb to save a bit more.

Instead of a gtx980. You could go for dual gtx970 custom non ref card instead.

At 1080p resolution, I think can go easy on the GPU. No need to SLI. Use the budget get a Dell U2414H. :D

Hi,

Do you know where I can get Cryorig products in Singapore?
