Cyber security prospect

Hi I am currently in my mid thirties with 7 years experience as a software programmer.

Currently i am looking to switch my career into IT security and was offered a post in security testing. Mostly doing source code review, pen test and VA.

Since i think i will be having pay cut due to this career switch so i want to ask whether the prospect of being in security testing like pen tester in Singapore is it good and promising?

Yeah. Pen testing is shortage of good people. However the caveat is many system integration/small companies are also trying to jump into this bandwagon as well. Most of them do not have qualified consultants and they would just run some scanners and call it a pen test. If you are in this category of pentesters, then probably not so good, because even a 15 years old can run those tools.

Thus it really depends where you are and how good you are/will be. If you are good enough to get into security boutique firms that charge premium for their services, you should be in a good place since they are willing to pay top dollar for good consultants. Also more banks are trying to build their internal pen test team, some of them are even paying up to VP grade salary for experienced pentesters.
