So this doesn't serve as deterrence for those tour de France wannabe.

WHAT DETERRENCE?
It encourages more expats and probably rebellious wannabes like those YPs to own more bikes and ride like a possessed ghost rider. The most kill some strnager and declare one week jail nia. Crash into a random family of ten is like playing GTA only 10 week jail. Go figure.

If this Finn is not a PR, can his work permit be revoked and deported immediately after he serves his jail term?

actually think both parties at fault, victim was trying to jay across a big 4 lane road (just ignore the technicalities of less than 50m away from designated crossing = jaywalk for now)

before crossing one would look to see if road is clear or not, especially for such wide crossings where vehicle speed is likely very fast... so pretty sure victim also spotted the cyclist chionging, but still want to go ahead because for whatever warped reason he expect cyclist to siam or slowdown for him since bicycles are not as fast as cars...

then cyclists, if roadie doing his TdF timing... just want to chiong straight and don't see the point of stopping unless necessary thats why they ride on road in the first place

both want to insist and not pause for either until very last moment. dont think this is a case where cyclist collided an unknowing pedestrian from the rear on pedestrian paths.... those wont be just 1 week

The cyclist should be caned gao lat gao lat 50 strokes of rotan first then hang him to death after his wound recovered 1 year later :)

Body will then be deported back to whichever hole he crawl out from.

"Deputy Public Prosecutor Rimplejit Kaur said that the 53-year-old pedestrian had not been jaywalking and the accident happened more than 50m from the nearest pedestrian crossing.

Salminen was in the second lane of the four-lane road along Sims Avenue towards Sims Avenue East at 6.16pm when Mr Chew stepped onto the fourth and extreme left lane.

Although Salminen spotted Mr Chew walking briskly onto the third lane, he did not slow down.

DPP Kaur said: "According to the accused, when the deceased was already in lane two, the accused rang the bicycle bell and jammed his brakes... The accused, however, could not stop the bicycle in time, as the distance between the accused and the deceased was too short."

More than 50m from nearest pedestrian crossing, ... deceased stepped onto the road, ... walked briskly from one lane to the other, ... and that's still not jaywalking???

Serving 1 week for him is nothing
Even if its in a Thai prison

The nightmare is when the deceaseds family sues him and since there's no third party insurance he have to pay from his own pocket and probably 100,000 plus onwards

Crossing the road more than 50m from a designated pedestrian crossing is not jaywalking.

She added: "This is not a case where the deceased suddenly dashed onto the road, suddenly appeared onto the road from an obscured position, suddenly stopped while crossing the road, suddenly turned back while crossing the road, hesitated or lingered while crossing the road or suddenly bent down to pick up something while crossing the road.

"In fact... the accused had an unobstructed view of the entire process of the deceased crossing the road, from the commencement to collision, if he had a kept a proper lookout."

really damn ** cyclist.
