D.I.Y Desktop I need help!!

Hi all, I am new to making a new desktop so I am wondering since a diy has an array amount of components , before I even buy tje parts how do I know weather the parts are competible? Cause u dount want later buy liao then incompatible then spoil that will suck so I hope some of ur computer guru out there can help me solve my question.
