I did my O Levels in 2014, and graduated with an R4 of 19 (-1 CCA Point) and got into TP Diploma in IT, but it wasn’t my desired course and thinking that staying on would be pointless, I decided to withdraw from the course and go for the Private Sch route.

I studied about 8 months in a private sch to get a diploma, however, I realised that private qualifications are not recognized locally. I then decided to set myself a goal to enter local university. But in order to be eligible, I need a Local Diploma or A Levels cert.

Hence I retake some of my O levels subjects in 2016 and managed to get an R4 of 11, after deducting CCA Point.

I tried to apply to TP Accounting and Finance via DAE in 2017, but was unsuccessful. I then tried to appeal in, but failed the interview.
Then the army had already send me my enlistment letter alr. I enlisted at the age of 19 on 11 Apr 17 and ORD on 10 Apr 19. And this time, since I wanted this course so badly, I applied all polytechnics. To my surprise, TP accepted my application and that’s where I am now :)

Hello so you finished private diploma at 18 and decided to retake o level? After receiving your o level result at 19 years old you cant defer anymore or you just prefer to finish NS first?

Mmm sort of. I was studying my private diploma halfway when I decided to enter Local U. That’s when I deferred my private diploma studies (Left about 1 term; 2 months plus) during Jan 16 to focus on my Os.

After I complete my Os that year, I continued to finish my private dip in Jan 17. After completing my diploma at around February 17 period, I received my enlistment letter for Army. I gave Mindef a call and they said I can defer once more if I am able to get into poly for that year. Otherwise I have to serve my NS first.

I tried to enroll into TP at the age of 19, but was unsuccessful. Tried to appeal and was unsuccessful too as I failed the interview. Spoke to the course manager that Accounting and Finance was the only course I want and nothing else. He told me to put other choices such as business (somewhat similar course) as this particular course is hard to enter because of high demand, and DAE places will only be available if any JAE students wishes to change course or withdraw. I told him that I wish to complete my local diploma before serving national service. He advised me to serve my NS first before reapplying again and at the same time, rethink about if I really want Accounting And Finance, as well as to keep in mind that the chances of getting into this course is very low. After NS, my heart still goes with A&F.

Reapplied this year and my application was successful
