DAE Application for Temasek Polytechnic Unsuccessful, What Do?

Hi as stated in the title, my DAE application has been unsuccessful.

I just e-mailed the course director for the course I wanted to rejoin back - Chemical Engineering & am waiting for his reply.

I called TP's admission office and was told to re-send the application email to try and appeal. If I do this, I'd need to wait latest by 22 April for results, but I feel it's somewhat redundant.

So now I'm kind of at a loss as to what my next step would be.

- Money is an issue. But with my age turning 24 this year, I don't have much time I guess.
- If I end up going into a private institution (has to be recognised in SG), I'd probably have to suck it up and take a bank loan.

Background Info:
My L1R4 was 14 - 1 for CCA so 13. O levels was completed in 2009.

I was in TP's ChE course and completed up to Year 2.1 (I didn't complete 2.2 but did go through the whole 2.2 semester).

I ended up withdrawing (stupid misunderstanding led me to withdrawing and not taking a hiatus, resulting in me having to restart from year 1 if I were enrolled back into the course).

My cumulative GPA at the end of Year 2.1 was 3.92.

I have no definitive reason as to why I withdrew, but it's a decision I'll always regret.

I've completed my NS but liable to reservist.

Any advice would be appreciative such as past experiences with DAE or which private institution I might consider and they'd take me in with just my O level certificate.

Don't panic. If the road don't turn, you turn. Take whatever grades you have for your completed modules and apply for private institution [e.g. ngee ann adelaide my ex-school whom I heard is now taking in students for their year 1 Commerce rather than direct entry into Year 2. ] Get as many exemptions as they will give, do their bridging programme whatever. If you mum dad is rich, better still go for exchange and finish your studies there.

It is a bloody diploma, dime in a dozen diploma that chances are is only more useful than toilet paper in telling somebody how long you can stick at something. Always remember, you make you. The school does not make you. The moment you drink the kool aid and stop learning from life lessons like this that $$$$$$$$$$$$$ can't buy, that is the day your brain officially retires. Based on the information you have given me, barring some personal issues unique to you, you should be able to do well anywhere. Put on your problem solving hat and solve this. Those people who know what they look for in an employee will appreciate your ability to overcome hurdles.

You see those unemployed people out there? Ever wondered what certification plasters their wall? Think about it? As for NS, defer wherever possible [please google. you're not the first guy on earth with reservist problems]. Good luck.

As a graduate of that place I pui! their ability to bring education to life and life to education. i am more thankful for my toilet paper than that bloody A3 piece of thing I have problem storing.

I understand doing A levels without guidance will be extremely difficult but if i set myself to sit for it in 2017 then that should be fine?

I do well enough to get into a local uni, enrol slightly before my 26th birthday and just work towards my degree.

Easier said than done I know, but worth a shot eh?

Based on what my course manager said, everyone that enters poly has a 5 year lifespan to complete their diploma regardless whether they withdrew, switch course, etc. In my case since I withdrew in semester 5-6, he thinks my rejected application was due to this reasoning. Which is actually unclear.

My course manager advised me to try the private A level candidate route. Honestly the only thing hindering me from trying this earlier was fear of failing.

I understand doing A levels without guidance will be extremely difficult but if i set myself to sit for it in 2017 then that should be fine?

I am firmly of the opinion, your course manager is talking out of his ass and I only have 1 life and am not interested in repeating anything that brings me no closer to my goal [hypothetically being uni].

I will just be direct and ask you to look at the big picture, so big that you look outside of singapore [hint: germany] look there and tell me if you need further help. I will use my good super powers to help you.

I know. Just thinking about the routes in Singapore they all appear to be quite costly and I really don't have the funds to do so. Bank loan I'm not sure if I can get a guarantor at the moment either.

Talking about Germany, iirc the course fees are minimal but what about the cost of living and learning German? Will I make ends meet working part time there? (if I can even manage to get work).

I'm all for moving to Germany or anywhere for that matter. But again, I don't have the finances to do so.

If only someway somehow I could get the funds suffice to cover my fees and loggins & logistics then I'd be more than happy to pay back bit by bit after I've got a job~

Hi can i know how long did tp take to reply to your DAE? I replied on 16 feb untill now still no response from them
