Hi guys,

Is there any good data recovery software for hard disk that have lost their partitions and probably MBR?

My WD 2TB external drive could not be detected after an accidental disconnect during data transfer(it has been facing this issue for some time, couple yrs old drive), so I disassembled the casing and connected the drive directly to my PC.

The HDD could power up and be detected by windows but its shown as unallocated/unpartitioned drive. I believe no hardware failure occurred so the data should actually be intact inside.

I have Easues Partition Manager and one of the option available is to rebuild MBR. But appreciate getting advice from guys here because dont want to inadvertently overwrite the data on the disk.

Use 7-Data recovery software.

Edit: You can try Recuva too.

No need to rebuild the MBR. Just recover the data. Then reformat the disk.
Important :The data should be recovered to ANOTHER disk and not to the same disk.

Just be warned that your WD drive may be hardware encrypted by default. If that's the case you won't be able to simply connect it to your PC's sata port and retrieve the data. Might need to get a replacement SATA-USB bridge.

This is part of the reason I'm weaning myself off WD external HDDs. As far as I know only the Elements line doesn't have hardware encryption.

Thanks for your vital information. I scanned the drive twice using Kernel for Windows Data Recovery but it couldnt detect any files..its likely due to this encryption :(

i always swear by getdataback. recovered 100% of data from drives that became unallocated every time, more than 10 times already.
