Hello everyone,

Would like to seek your feedback on prepaid or rental data service.

Are people keen to get more data / faster speed/ cheaper services ?

What kind of pricing per day will you consider before it becomes reasonable to you ?

Would you roam with telco ?

Stay tuned.

Cheers and thanks.

telco is last resort
first choice is fly or get a specifc country data package
either is a mifi or a data sim

since now or most of user is on smarphone so its ok go for data only package since can make msg and data or voice or video call back home too

no need to look for normal voice and sms

Brilliant. Thanks kenchi and Adam.

Understand both your points.

Am looking at a solution that is priced better and performs better than both.

Understand the typical market rate is about 2000 yen per GB for prepaid sim. For lte/mifi/pocket wifi, this is about 800-900 yen per day (nett) with collection from airport

Wonder what would make a difference.

- easier pickup /return location ?
- pay as you go/flexible daily data rates ?
- skype unlimited calls back to SG ?
- easier booking/order service ?

Would indiv prepaid sim be more convenient vs mobile wifi ?

Cheers !

My previous company under starhub corporate plan had free (yes, free) data roaming in a few countries - one of them is Japan.

But now change company no more that benefit liao. I always go for pocket wifi -- specifically, this one: http://www.globaladvancedcomm.com/pocketwifi.html although other providers all practically the same convenience of pick up at airport, and drop off back at airport after you're done.

I like pocket wifi over sim card cos you can share it with multiple people.

Thanks for sharing brother Deodorant.

So far have used b mobile, so-net prepaid cards. Yet to try WiFi or prepaid mifi. My Understanding is that performance varies widely in cities. Tokyo and Osaka would mean you get rubbish performance. Smaller cities like sapporo and nigata should be OK.

Saw this provider with a really nice website. Their long term rental deals were quite worth it if you visit frequently.

https://www.sakuramobile.jp

But I realised, at that kind of price point, why not just buy a prepaid/monthly plan sort of thing. Hence, studying if there's sufficient market demand right now and learning market expectations.

I would say
MIfi is good if u need to share data with mutiple device or with others If not the mifi battery drain pretty fast and data speed is not as fast as a pure data sim as its not shared

And data sim always will be faster and more Batt saver
I used both mifi and data sim
I would prefer data sim
For the speed

I would vote for so net over Iijmio and b mobile visitor sim
As its faster in tokyo and sapporo
