Data SIM with Android Tablet

Hi folks,

I was planning to buy an android tablet, then I remember I had a free mobile broadband SIM card when I signed up fibre BB with M1. So now I plan to buy the tablet with LTE so that I can use the free mobile SIM.

Anyone knows if a new Whatsapp account can be created on the tablet? 'cos IIRC whatsapp will send an SMS to the mobile SIM number so I am not sure if the mobile SIM is able to receive SMSes.

I'm also using my M1 free data sim. I created a new whatsapp account with that data sim number and it work. I can send and receive whatsapp on my tablet using that number.

That's great! So when you first set up the whatsapp account your tablet is able to receive the sms?

i never try sms, but i think should be able to as it is a valid number. I even get calls (dun know from whom as i never answer) on the tablet.

If your tablet has a SIM slot it means that the tablet has the mobile function, therefore it can perform the full suite of mobile functions like SMS and make/receive phone calls. Therefore whatsapp and wechat will not have problem with SMS activation.

Depend on which brand and model. Lenovo Yoga series has 3G sim but data only.

Hmm, didnt know that data only sim card can receive SMS for whasapp activation, might consider the Tab S seriously now.
