Hello!

Sorry for creating another thread.. Wanted to list out the places that one can visit on a day/short trip from tokyo.

Just wondering anyone has any experiences traveling out of Tokyo, probably for a day or 2 days trip?

Anyone has been to Chichibu or something?

Need suggestions, since i will be here until Jan 3rd...

Thank you!!

Use JR Kanto Area Pass (8000yen, 3days) to go to:
-Karuizawa (by Shinkansen)
-Izu (non-Shinkansen)
-Lake Kawaguchi (non-Shinkansen)

Use Hakone Free Pass to go to:
-Hakone (5000yen, 2days)

Also, you might want to consider:
-Yokohama
-Kamakura
-Kawagoe
-Kawasaki

Go Okutama walk around the river, climb the mountain. - 1 day
Go Tanzawa climb mountain - 1 day
Nikko - 1 day or 2 (if you want to stay overnite)
Go Matsumoto roam around see the castle, next day go kamikochi have a nice walk then at night back to tokyo (2-day)

If you can afford a day or 2, I suggest Yokohama, Kamkura, Enoshima and/or Gifu.
Likewise, Lake Kawaguchi + Gotemba or visit the 5 lakes around Mt Fuji.

JR Kanto Pass can be purchased in Japan, within Kanto region.

For Tokyo and Kyoto city bus is flat rate.
For this it should be outskirt bus by other provider. You may have to get the ticket and pay the amount display at the front panel base on distance/stops. I have travel to Osaka outskirt once, the bus don't have IC card reader maybe due to different operator, accept only cash or bus pass, so be prepare to pay cash/coins.

One thing to note is, if you do not have exact coins, there is 1000 yen note changer machine at the front next to bus driver. Do change way ahead before you alight instead of changing and paying during alighting. They run on schedule de, so is polite to change before hand.
