if he awols for a month , how long will he be in db for ? hes a first timer too

Only the person deciding the sentence will know. Take it that it’s the worse case scenario. Maybe for each day of AWOl, he will serve the same length in db lor

no defined answer

up to the military prosecutor, he/she will formally ask for the amt of days/mths to lock him up. then the judge will decide before passing his final judgment

It doesn't take much to get into DB. It's how serious the superior deem the act seems to be. I'm only basing on SAF and SCDF. No idea about SPF with regards to DB.

Insubordination alone can land an NSF or NSman in DB. Yes, during my reservist stint, I've experience my section mates got sent to DB for the stupidest thing when the whole reservist period is only 2 weeks.

For NSman, forgetting to book IPPT can get you in trouble too. Some officers prefer to make it difficult for you. They know you can pay the fine thus they choose to send you to DB for not booking/missing IPPT for that work year. So be careful.

Length of stay, like other said, duration varies. So no one can really say how long. But it's fair to say 1 mth AWOL deserve at least 1 month in DB? That does not include an extra month add on to serve NS.

If anyone hates doing NS, better to quickly serve and F.O, AWOL only lengthen the NS period. I know this personally as 1 of my siblings end up serving almost 5yrs in NS for repeated AWOL and subsequent DB.

Why waste 5 years of one's life in Full time NS when 2 years is more than enough.

Last time in my unit got one storeman who forged MC very often in order to moonlight outside. Then on one occasion he was caught by the unit Ops warrant outside when he was moonlighting and ended up 40 days DB and of course had his ORD date extended as well.

Then during my active days (I was serving in a reservist brigate during my NSF days) I have heard of reservists kenna DB for a few days because of fighting inside the bunk. The feelings must be sucked when others were outpro while you were inside the DB.

During my active days long ago, a fellow platoon mate wrote some vulgar words on the donation card that we are supposed to use to get donation for some SAF event. He was sentenced to 10 days DB.

During our exercise in Taiwan, two of my platoon mates illegally booked out at night and went drinking with the Taiwanese soldiers. They were caught, charged with AWOL but let off with just a fine ($50 or so).

For your reference and info. Hard to guess what offence will lend you in DB. Besides some guidelines the JDO / SDO has the follow, it also depends on his judgement and how strict / lenient he is.
