Hiya guys, hope smone can help me here. I am still using old desktop on Asus P5Q-E (best motherboard ever), installed with 2x2GB Kingston DDR2-800 CL5 RAM (kvr800d2n5/2g). The system is in bloody good condition and still running like virgin. I would like to upgrade the RAM to 8GB, but I can only find Kingston DDR2-800 CL6 RAM available on Qoo10, is it compatible?. I can understand if this type of RAM might be out of production, so what else can I do to upgrade the RAM to 8GB?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Why shouldn't it be compatible, unless I'm missing something, the only difference between those RAM and yours is the cas latency, the tighter the timing, the 'faster' the RAM I think. It's been a while since my old DDR2 days, so I may be mistaken about something. This kinda remind me that I have a C2Q X9650 rig somewhere.....gonna rummage through my 'storeroom'.

Your CL5 RAM is faster than the CL6 RAM I think, very fuzzy now, wait for some RAM expert to chime in.

Thanks for the answer. What about mix and match different brand and speed (i.e 2 slots with DDR2-800 and another 2 with DDR2-1066)?

The RAM will run at the slower speed and CLAS of the two kits.

CL5 is faster and pretty much the standard. CL6 is budget RAM.
