DDR5 RAM issues

Hi,

Anyone have issues trying to run DDR5 ram accordingly to advertised speeds?

Currently have a rig under testing at a shop and the tech guy claims that one set of 16gb x 2 G skill trident z5 rgb kit is unable to run at 5600mhz (as advertised) and is only stable at 5400mhz.

He is using my Z690 mobo + his own 750W PSU to run the tests. (my own PSU is 1000W but he's not using it to test for some odd reason)

I have another set of 16gb x 2 of the same g skill trident z5 5600mhz ram that he is testing separately for stability but he's adamant that the other set is 'DOA' as it failed prime95 stress overnight twice in a row with the rounding errors, expected less than 0.4 (he proved to me with screenshots.)

I asked him to update BIOS to the latest version but he told me that 'it wont make a difference'.

Then I consulted someone and he himself is using the same kit as me and he said to manually put in voltage in BIOS, which I told the PC tech guy to do but he told me off saying that 'I shouldn't be messing with voltages and my RAM is DOA means is DOA and the stress tests don't lie that the RAM is faulty'.

He keep insisting I RMA the RAM immediately.

Kinda confused right now. Hoping for some inputs from some tech experts here regarding DDR5 ram speed voltages and tunings and if the second kit of ram is really 'DOA' as he mentioned.

What brand mobo? Updating bios will help.

I suggest don't buy from this shop if they cannot even troubleshoot properly.

MSI Z690 Ace.

Will only get back the rig tmr. i think this tech guy doesn't know about voltage tunings in BIOS because he doesn't dare touch these settings. He got agitated when I asked him to input a certain voltage in BIOS. Kept bringing up the fact that my RAM is DOA :( Looks like I need to test the 2 ram sticks myself to see if they are really 'DOA' and I'm not really well versed in these troubleshooting as I usually bring them to tech guys to do it for me.

official jedec spec for ddr5 is 4800, anything above should require higher voltage than bios default

how can anybody expect to achieve the advertised speed without having to set the advertised voltage
go and check the manufacturer specs, i'm sure they will advertise the correct voltage to use. it's not a happy +0.1 or +0.2v, there is an offically recommended figure

Exactly. That’s why I’m wondering why he die Die dont wanna touch the voltage. But how did he manage to run it at 5400mhz stable for the first kit If he didn’t adjust the voltage in BIOS ah

most definitely some kits can run at lower voltage than required, just as how some 5400mhz ram can oc to 6000mhz
just because can boot doesn't mean it would be stable though

maybe he's trying his luck, for sure if you have 1k sets of ram, definitely there'll be a kit that can do something amazing
a kit that can run at the spec with a lower than needed voltage will surely be able to do a huge oc at the recommended volt

Nice, when can sell lower than $500 for 32GB kit
