About time, ddr4 around for a long time. What is the typical speed of ddr5?

For initial release of DDR5, I suspect performance will be crippled by extremely loose latencies even though you might have a higher rated speed compared to DDR4. Give it a year before you start seeing proper performance increases from DDR5.

Also, not sure if AMD or Intel's next chipset will have support for DDR5. By now, still no indication. Pointless to wait really.

It's fairly safe to assume that Ryzen 4000 will be DDR5. 2022 release and a new socket/chipset.

As for Intel, maybe after 14nm++++++ :s13:

Earliest we are looking at is 2022. Intel's 11th Gen Tigerlake will also debut with DDR5. Wouldn't hold my breath but maybe might be 10nm at best. GG for Intel anyways unless they rebound back with something good. Think will take them 3-5 years to churn out something competitive.

The reason I started this post is because I am using a ddr3 ram system setup

would like to upgrade but when I saw ddr5 in the news I thought I would ask because I do not want the issue that when I upgrade to DDR4 Ram then suddenly ddr5 comes out and realize money wasted

Trivia: Latency in clock divided by clockspeed equals latency in ms, and it doesn't change with memory interface technology.

No point waiting for DDR5 when it's still so far away ...... Besides, initial prices will likely be high.

Hi 5, DDR3 here too. DDR5 gonna be a long wait. 2022 release, 2024 price dropped and high speed rams will come in. Unless chiu don't mind waiting till 2023 ~ 2025.

ok I know my topic is about ram, but I am hijacking this topic a bit.

I heard that 3xxx series graphics cards are coming out soon. Should I wait or?

ram graphics questions etc. So many questions is because , I want to upgrade at the same time be current with the technology. I do not want the issue that when I finish building my new computer only to realize that new parts have just came out and I wasted my money

PC parts almost every year or 2, comes out with new generations of PC parts or a better version of that generation. Something like your smartphone but PC parts can last quite a number of years before you feel laggy and slow.

Oct -> Nvidia Ampere GPU
Nov/Dec/Jan -> Radeon Big Navi + AMD Zen 3 Vermeer

Wait till all launched then go get it. They are probably the last version of DDR4 system.
Pay more ~$3000 for elite PC parts, can last you 5 years.
Pay ~$1500 get normal PC parts, can upgrade in 3 years time.

I've upgraded into 34 inch monitor. 5 million pixels. 144Hz. Need a powerful CPU/GPU. I want nothing else but max settings for gaming sessions.

If you choose a 24inch 1080p @ 60Hz. A simple RTX 3060 or 3070 can last you a long, long time. Maybe AMD 4600/4700 too.

Agree.

I can still find/buy DDR2 RAM these days :s13:

No point to wait for DDR5 dimm.

It will be too costly to be an early bird to run a rig with DDR5.

Get DDR4 now and by the time DDR5 releases and goes at an affordable price it will be time for your next upgrade.
