Can an old laptop with dead battery still power up when connected to AC power?

Currently most laptops battery is built-in, and cannot be removed.

Yep, should be able to power up on AC.

And yes, most laptops have built in batteries instead. A hassle to swap it out but still possible.

If it's dead, it's best to swap it out if possible.
If you notice any signs of bloating / budging from your laptop's housing stop usage immediately.

This was what happened to my sister's Thinkpad Edge with an internal battery.

Those with built-in polymer battery cannot remove one will still work if it dies?

I know the old type with removable battery can detach if it dies and causes problems. It's just a sliding button to unlock.
