Can tell you a lot of companies in SGX are basically scam. How old are you? Have kids?
I also lost in SGX stock many years ago, but only high 4-digits, after that I don't buy SGX stocks any more. The stock value dropped 99%, but surprising company didn't go bankrupt, just rename and restructure. Stock still in my CDP account! Can tell you a lot of companies in SGX are basically scam.
The thing is, this is the first time I buy stocks lol, they told me sure win, gullibly listen
Sorry, but that's the wrong way to invest. Done correctly, retail investors can invest in the market on their own to grow their wealth. Learning what mistakes to avoid is the first step.
Learn a few things from the expensive lesson of what it meant
1 what is share consolidation
2 right issues
Mean throw more money
Things are never what you think here, more than you can imagine.
Give you a few example.
1. Punggol, venice of the east....
2. 99 years HDB owner...
3. 4% yield...retirement plan...
......
Don't be surprised, end up all is a dream.
I started working in 2004. Dabbled by first SGX stocks in 2007 at the peak.
My portfolio went down by 60% at the bottom of 2009.
I didn't give up. Consolidated my portfolio and continued to add diligently.
By 2014 to 2016, I exited my SGX stocks with a peanut 70k profits plus dividends.
I still have 2 China s-shares which are still in limbo in my CDP account.
Now I'm only into STI ETF and a bigger bulk of my portfolio is in US market.
US market is a much bigger and well regulated market with tons of opportunities. From small to the mega market caps. Lots of sector ETFs to play around.

I am so call compulsive gambler, that why I never play stock back in the 90 where all my ex-colleague all was dabbling. Never touch it until 3 years ago, someone was "insider" recommendation. Till now, that was the only stock ever bought.
Maybe your friend played you out.
He was asking everyone to buy his shares so that he can exit at higher prices.

Be careful with tips from anyone and especially on this forum.
Stock market cannot touch from the risk vs returns point of view, good days maybe over. I see trouble from China, don’t think they can reinflate.
