Debate: Windows 7 or 8.1?

Wanna install new OS for new rig. But only can buy Windows 8 Pro digital key Personally I prefer Windows 7. So maybe plan to downgrade. What about you guys? Other than the total makeover of the Start menu in Windows 8, what likes and dislikes you guys have on Windows 8?

Been through 7 to 8 and now on 8.1 which i would say got less and less resource intensive. I am even able to run my PS3 controller on 8.1 so I would say it is actually working pretty well for me. Maybe next I would try running old PS emulators to see how they go.

Other than the total makeover of the Start menu in Windows 8, what likes and dislikes you guys have on Windows 8?

To be honest, other than the Start menu, I can't really tell the difference from my previous windows system, which was running Vista (went to MacOS in between for some years). Was apprehensive at first as I recalled a lot of friends complained about win7 - 8 transition, but having used it for 3 months plus, I don't get what the hoo-ha about hating Win8 was about. Quite like it.

The start menu reminds me a bit of MacOS, but since most of my frequently used apps are either pinned to the taskbar or have shortcuts on the desktop too, I don't use the start menu often in the end.

on win8.1, i can now organise my start menu with a lot of my frequently used programs, rather than concise a few at the corner of the window. the icons are big and clear (poor eye sight )

Classic start + Windows 8.1 = Windows 7 with the benefits of 8.1

Yeah I heard that 8.1 utilises both the hibernating functions while you shut down your comp. In order to allow faster boot times.
