Hello people,

I'm new to building a computer from scratch. This will be my first time... :D

Was recommended by my friend this website and was wondering if it is good to follow.

Logical Increments - PC Buying Guide

(looking @ superb - great range)

May I know whats the difference between the AMD & intel processor?

Probably going with:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Intel Core i5-4430
ASRock Z87 Extreme3
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD
Samsung 840 Series 2.5 inch 120GB SSD
Seasonic M12II-650 BRONZE ATX 650W
Rosewill R5 Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Case

Please advise, Thanks ;)

What is your total budget if you include monitor & keyboard?

For OS, you can try it out at local IT stores like Challenger to see if you like the new interface.

Monitor probably below 300 (really noob @ monitor, no idea on price range)

probably getting a mechanical keyboard , budget around 150. :)

so total budget around 1.6~1.7k?

PC Show pricing for CM Storm Quickfire Pro Mechanical Keyboard is $128 (usual price $148). U can try grab those while stocks last. Else u will have to end up having to get the Rosewill Keyboards if u still wanna keep to the $150 budget.

since you are not overclocking, drop the CPU cooler

get a bigger SSD... 120Gb run out quite fast and SSD are cheap these days, can afford bigger one

dun get that processor... TSM and stuff disabled lei get the 4_70 processors with no k postfix

I think a 2TB hdd is just afew bucks more, in fact the 4Tb is $2xx now.

And one more thing, Dell U2312HM monitor going at $269 at PC Show. Try go today or tmr to bargain hunt for the monitor. I think maybe tmr they might slash $10-$20 down to $249 for this monitor to clear PC Show stocks. So u can try your luck there for bargain hunting.

okay, regarding the CPU cooler... I always tend to leave my PC to download stuffs overnight. is it okay if I just stick with the stock one? (P.S my room no air con, so temperature abit warm in my room)

I dont really get the processor part... hahah, sorry noob here. :s22:

I went to research on HDD and I thought there are some limitations on HDD bigger than 2TB? :s11:

CPU & Mobo: i5-4570 & Asrock B85M Pro 4 @ $370
No need to get Z87 mobo if you don't intend to overclock. H87 or B85 is good enough.
Ram: Kingston 1600mhz value ram 2x4GB @ $76
Value ram is cheaper and performs the same as Crucial Ballistix unless you intend to oc your ram.
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $21
SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB @ $139
HDD: WD Blue 1TB @ $80
Personally prefer WD Blue or Hitachi Deskstar as I find that Seagate HDD is quite prone to hardware failure.
GPU: Powercolor 7950 Boost @ $395
Case: Sharkoon T28 @ $89
PSU: Seasonic S12 520W @ $89
OS: Windows 8 Home @ $119
Monitor: Dell U2312HM @ $250

Total: $1628
