Hi,

I have recieved PR status through my mother 2 months ago.
I am going to turn 21 in July and I understand that as a second gen PR,
I have to serve NS.

However, I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at The University of
Nottingham, and have recieved PR in the midst of studies.

I have just completed the first year of my degree course, and have not recieved any
enlistment letter yet. My degree is a 3-YEAR course. Therefore,

1. Can I defer my NS for 2 years to finish my degree?

2. I am willing to give a bond to ensure I will come back to serve after
I finish my degree

3. What are the options that I currently have?

Please note, my University has told me if I disrupt my studies to serve NS,
I must repeat my degree course from the beginning when I return.

Also note, that I am more than wiling to serve NS after my degree and I applied
for PR through my parent prior to going to university but was rejected.
Hence, at that time I had decided to commence my studies instead of waiting
for the possibility of obtaining PR in the future.

I'm not in the best position to advise, but I dont think your deferment will be rejected. You received your PR status before matriculation, therefore it makes no sense to me to force you to leave school and serve.

MINDEF is famous for doing things that make no sense sometimes. :s8:

If you do enlist after your degree, you will be a rather old recruit though.

Old recruit can still function well in combat support vocations if combat vocation is unsuitable.. Lol

Stop trying to read in-between the lines when there are none.

I was just stating the obvious - he is going to turn 21, 2 years deferment means he will enlist at 23 or 24, which is pretty old for a recruit. He will ORD 25 or 26.

Whether he can defer or not is MINDEF's decision. He asked for an opnion, we provided some of ours.

Why don't you stand-by your phone 24/7, since you seem to like being the NS hotline Agony Aunt.

I dunno why u r so defensive. It's only a question. :s8:

Your perception is perhaps wrong, but you are right that my phone is on 24/7 :)

Quite high chance of deferring since its NUS. If its the private universities, can probably forget about it.

What's more, PAP loves foreigners like you. :)
