one of the schools I know offers Plymouth University degree.. it falls within your budget too... This is a recognised degree and even one of our local poly also have tie up with them, I heard. Apart from the poly, there is only one school Singapore that offers this degree. Check out SAA Global Education.

I hope this helps.

SAA ? Is it the one at Aljunied ? The CPA House ? Heard about it but never have the time to explore the courses. How much the course to be exact ? I am interested in accounting and wish to major in accounting.

SAA has two campuses.. one at aljunied cpa house, and the other is at somerset triple one.

the course fees depends if you are doing it on full time or part time.. maybe you call the school...

I heard unisim is only recognised locally and not internationally recognise. Need to verify..

The Plymouth degree is confirmed internationally recognised, and I have checked with sg mom before. So, it's quite a safe bet.

If you plan to do accounting, you should study ACCA.

Company in Singapore treat ACCA graduate as good as local graduate where as, other oversea degree program are considered inferior.

Furthermore, ACCA is cheaper than most oversea degree program, if and only you pass at one sitting

Yes, they are not easy to pass that is why Singapore Companies treat it like a local degree from NUS and NTU.

From where you heard that they are going to phase out in 2020?

With the recent changes from CPA to CA, an academic degree will be the focus. Starting an ACCA now with the objective of getting a CA designation will no longer be realistic.

Singapore QP has in place the transitional arrangement which gives the existing ACCA students a deadline 2018 to complete their ACCA 14 papers plus 3 years work experience.

Yes, it is now called CA. Must get a degree before can become CA. I have a friend studying the Plymouth degree at SAA and she seems to be doing well with the programme. You can give yourself the options.

Hi lcheowl,

I heard it from a friend taking ACCA who lives in my neighbourhood. I have my reservations to that as well , that explains why im trying to get some good quality information here.

May I know the difference between the so called LCCI, CAT and ACCA. Does getting a degree surpass these? The last thing I want is to get stuck in some kinda courses that its difficult to pass. Can you kindly advise me on this ?

LCCI is lower than CAT

CAT is like local diploma in accounting

ACCA is like local Uni degree in accountancy. However, do take note that if you want to join big 4, they rarely recruit graduate from ACCA.

As long as you put in enough effort and time, you should pass. The commitment must be there.

Else you can consider UniSim Degree in Accountancy which after government grant (if you are a local), it should be within your budget.

LCCI have Cert & Dip level.

CAT claim that they are equal to Dip level.

Most Industries prefer LCCI Dip over CAT.

---------------------------------------------

CAT is under the same Org with ACCA which is the reason why CAT have more exemption compare to LCCI Dip.

But when it come to Degree courses, LCCI Dip have more exemption compare to CAT.

---------------------------------------------

If you used ACCA to apply for non-accounting related graduate position, you will never get it cause ACCA is a Prof Cert & it is never a degree.

The reason why people claim that it is like a Local Uni Degree because ACCA direct get CPA Sg (Accounting Licence in layman term) if you have 3 years of experience like Local Uni Degree requirement unlike D/L degree where they still needs to go for ICPAS Prof Exams.

However now CPA Sg become CA Sg & with the new requirement, it seem like getting an ACCA is not recognize to get CA Sg. So I would like to recommend taking a D/L Degree over ACCA.

Yes, you are right that ACCA will not useful if TS is going to apply non accounting job.

A lot of people is not aware that ACCA and Oxford Brookes University have worked together to develop a BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting.

The BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting is as good as any other Degree program offer by Institution like Kaplan.

In order to get BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting, TS just need to complete all the Fundamentals papers, and do a project.

Along the way, ACCA will award Advanced Diploma in Accounting andBusiness after completing certain papers.

If only TS is very sure he going to stay in account and audit line, this path is one of the cheapest and the more recognise one.
