Hey, I have a Dell 640m. I got a problem with external speakers.

When I play movies or MV with WMP or Classic WMP, the sound suddenly goes off.

I unplug the speakers and the sound is heard in the built in speakers. then I plug in the external speakers again and the sound is hear in the external speakers again. So everytime this happens, I unplug the external speakers and plug in again.

Then I realsied that this will happen if the volume in the WMP is set to max. I set them to half and it does happens anymore.

Recently, i forgot to set the volume in WMP to half and the sound went off again. But when I unplug the external speakers, still no sound from the notebook's speaker. I have to close the WMP and start again. This only happens once.

Does anyone have any idea about this problem? Or anyone have same experience?

it could be either ur external speakers faulty or the built in one....u can contact Dell to clarify...at least they can let u know whether ur built in one is ok or not

Does anyone here used a POSB GO! MasterCard to purchase from Dell online? Or can you also purchase by cash or NETS at Kiosk-Suntec instead of a credit card?

i tink u can use the POSB debit card (the orange one) to pay for internet purchases,so long as there is enough money in your bank...

He was referring to the new enhanced POSB ATM card with some debit card features. You can 'trade-in' your old ATM card at any POSB brunch to get that.

Hi, can some of the 640m user share with us how much you spent on ya lappie's configuration?

I will be buying this model, but not too sure whether to get 1 GB or 2 GB ram so forth and so on.

Thought of looking at how you guys feel.

I got mine for about 1.5K. But the configuration at that time was quite different from now. Previously the standard configuration was 512MB RAM but now most have 1GB RAM as the standard configuration.

In my opinion, stick to the standard of 1GB RAM and upgrade the other 1GB outside, that would be cheaper.

Thanks for the info.
Bout how much i need to pay for the 1GB DDR2 RAM?
I find 2GB RAM would be more smooth if i operates PS (photoshop) often.

I got mine for $2065 in Feb just before Chinese New Year.

Upgrades from standard package :
Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 -> Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83Ghz
Vista Home Premium -> Vista Business
1yr Limited Warranty -> 3 yr complete cover
14.1" WXGA TFT -> 14.1" WXGA TFT with True Life

Its working fine with 2X512 ram. Because i use for normal word processing, Spreadsheet, Internet downloading and video viewing.

I got mine for $1780

Specs
Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83Ghz
Vista Business
1 yr complete cover & 2,3 Year Collect and Return
14.1" WXGA TFT

Working with 2 X 512MB DDR2 RAM 533Hz. Would be thinking of upgrading to 2 x 1Gb RAM since 1Gb 677Hz Kingston RAM seem to be so cheap now. Wonder whether do we have to use specific kingston RAM? Or all kind of kingston RAM would do??? Need some help here...

2 x 512 MB seem tp be working well most of the time... Media Player 11 and the Photo Gallery seem to be quite laggy...but i guess this is graphics card problem... Also startup is slightly slow. Perhaps disabling some start up would solve the problem i guess

Perhaps you should get it at the PC show at end of this month... there would be better discount
