Hi guys,

I have a Dell Inspirion 6000 and recently it has this problem of unable to startup. The LEDs will flash, the Power LED will stay on and the hard drive/CD rom will read a bit. Then nothing. Fan will spin though.

This occurs in battery as well as when plugged into the AC adaptor. Called the Dell technical support and still nothing. They recommend me to change the mobo at $700!!

Anyone has this problem? Where else can I get a cheap fix? Tks!

Does your SPD looks like this?

Yeah, both slots look like this. However FSB:DRAM is 1:2 when ideally it should be 1:1. For the original RAM, the ratio was 5:8. Is this a factor?

Hi,

I have been using 2X Kingston Value Ram DDR2 1GB 667MHz(KVR667D2S5) for months and it has been causing my system to freeze regularly. When I installed back the original RAM, everything worked fine again.

What I want to know is that are there any Dell Inspiron 6400 users that have any problems with the Kingston RAM? I have ran Memtest86 and Windows Memory Diagnostic and no problems were found with it. So is it just an incompatibility problem? :s11:

Thanks...
I own a 630m and using Kingston ram (recommended type by Kingston) no problem.
Base on Kingston website, the following ram is compatitable with 6400.

KTD-INSP6000A/256 256MB DDR2-533 Module
KTD-INSP6000A/512 512MB DDR2-533 Module
KTD-INSP6000A/1G 1GB DDR2-533 Module
KTD-INSP6000B/256 256MB DDR2-667 Module
KTD-INSP6000B/512 512MB DDR2-667 Module
KTD-INSP6000B/1G 1GB DDR2-667 Module

Boot the diagnostic CD and check the following:

Check CPU, motherboard, RAM and hard disk.

Dell consumer notebook delay may last into October-November
Yen-ting Cheng, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Thursday 23 August 2007]

Shipment delay problems plaguing Dell may be worse than expected, with a shortage for the company's consumer notebook models likely to last into October or November, according to sources at Taiwan-based retail channels.

Retail channels in the Asia-Pacific region are all caught in a shortage of the consumer models, indicating that Dell's initial thrust into the channel market is rather bumpy, the sources stated.

With the company indicating painting problems as one of the main reasons for the long delays in the shipping of its XPS M1330 models, Dell Taiwan recently invited media in Taiwan to visit its lab to explain its quality control in the painting of the color notebooks.

It is a difficult task for Dell to try to offer a range of eight colors for the case of its notebooks, as compared to Sony's latest CR-series notebooks, which are available only in four colors, said the sources.

In response to the shipping problems, Dell's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore said that the company is focusing on improving the situation and will deliver the products to customers as soon as possible.

The hardware are basically the same. If you like black go for the 1400.

The black does look very conventional to me though. Not as striking as the other colors available on the XPS series.
