Hi everyone, I have a question about upgrading ram for Inspiron 6000, currently have 2x256, performance wise will there be any difference between using 2x512 and 1x1gb? if buy a 1gb stick, later on down the road can get another one, but would 2x512 perform better? I'm not sure if the dual channel principal of P4 desktop rams applies here as well...

my first post here.

i am using a Dell Inspiron 9100. my ac adapter died on me 2day.

wonder if anyone has a spare or has upgraded their laptops n like to sell me a workable old one?

or if anyone knows instead of ordering from dell, are there shops in singapore who sells them?

no difference but the 1x 1gb would give you expansion possibilities in future.

now i have to resort to my old 1.8GHz outdate desktop to play my online games .... no good no good.

anyway...those who buy 700m last few months.....did u upgrade to DVD RW drive? i just realise that it a DL drive...think i need to buy a disc to test out........

hi there,

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 6000 today, with a little customization.

Dell quoted $13 for HD partitioning, thought that was expensive since anyone can do it with a windows bootable disk or any other bootdisk floppy.

Anyone care to share if he or she has problem creating his own HD partition?

I'm not sure if the recovery CD that comes with Dell can perform manual HD partitioning like normal windows CD.

Regarding your "recovery cd", do u mean the windows cd provided by Dell ?
If yes, i think there is no problem for u to do hd partition, just like normal windows cd.
Mine is inspiron 8200, had partition the hd with the windows cd provided by them.

desperately seeking ac adapter

me again.

i have a inspiron 9100 since apr 04.

at mar 05 the battery failed to charged and was replaced for free by dell.

in june 05 the graphics gard ati 9700 128mb failed and i paid about SGD700 for replacement [sadly they cant upgrade to a 9800] and other charges as my waaranty is 1 year.

now it's july 05 the ac adapter failed.

i have a dell dimension 8100 for 4 years now and the monitor failed in a year and the hard disk crashed in the end of 3rd year. my wife's dimension 8200 [i think] hardisk crashed in the end of third year was replaced free via waranty.

i think ultimately we need 3 years warranty ... if a desktop or laptop failed after 3years of original parts. that's fair ocs it must have expire it's life cycle, but if the parts failed after one year, w/o warranty ... cost of repair can be high.

i play SWG on my 9100 after i got it in 04. like EQ i think it's "crack" to me too so i need my 9100 to function everyday when i want it to be ... now my ac adaptor has failed it's like my lungs are not working and i cant breathe properly.

dell tho used to be ugly has improved it's looks. the parts they offer if u configure well can go up to top-notch. with XPS models they now stand up front to compete with top gaming machines ....

i'm not sure if i will go back to dell again when my system is outdated, or will i go back to desktop n be immobile for gaming ... guess i'll decide in 1.5years. i have already switched to a 12" ibook now for my mobile net surfing outdoors.

is this a blog? i am waiting for dell to come back to me since 9am this morning, they have my ac adapter for replacemtn, takes 5-15days for delivery, SGD6 for the cord, SGD55 for the ac adapter. with GST n delivery charges it'll cost SGD100+. BUT ... they do not have the parts number so they cant quote me so i can placed my order .... they are hunting for the part number while i suffer with a dysfunctional 9100.

well if i have spare cash ... maybe i should upgrade to alienware for gaming ... and i will be out of this dell user club .... but in the meantime .... 9100 is a powerful machine [ok it crashes alot when i play SWG due incompatiblity in drivers]

anyone out here who finnaly finish my story .... if u know anywhere that sells a dell 9100 ac adapter or has a spare to sell .... pls let me know.

Faint clicking noise from Dell HD

Hi there,

Does anyone encounter this "faint clicking" noise from your Dell notebook HD even though you leave the notebook idle?

My Inspiron 6000 has a Hitachi 80Gb 5400rpm HD that keep having this noise.
Although its not loud, but I find it strange that the HD keeping constantly making this faint clicking noise even when nothing is running!

I experience this kind of HD noise before on another notebook(even louder) but only when the notebook is working (reading or writing data).

Anyone out there care to share his experience?

there is still occasional disk access evil when the system is idle. nothing to worry abt. the click lasts abt 1 sec right?
