Hello,

My 700m touchpad buttons seem to be depressed. I no longer hear a crisp clicking sound when I click on them. It feels like using a mouse whose keys have been used so often they are no longer sensitive. The left button is more depressed than the right button.

Does this warrant a repair? Both buttons still work, but I've stopped using them. But I really hope to restore the keys to their original condition. Or do our fellows have any bright ideas?

Thanks
Can send for repair. But for me, I never even use those buttons. I programmed the top-left corner of the touch pad to be middle click and top-right to be right click. Tap other parts (mostly middle) of the touch pad will be left click. I only use the actual left button rarely when I need to do tricky drag-and-drop (usually I use the double tap and drag method). So I practically have no use for the buttons. They are rather stiff and hard to use to begin with.

hee lazy to bring down, and further more i don have the laptop case
Haha, you buy an ultraportable laptop and still lazy to bring it out :D

The Kingston ones should begin with KVR something. That's the Kingston Value RAM series, they have better ones (non-"Value", most expensive of course), even some customised for Dell, I think, but you basically can only find the KVR in SLS. So there is only 1 type of Kingston DDR333/PC2700 available. Won't get wrong lah. By the way, I use Patriot RAM on my 700m. Works well too.

Walk around SLS to look for best price. Best Bargain may not be the best, I've heard some complains about them, like they force you to bring down laptop and then charge you for the installation of RAM, though others say they don't charge. While you are in SLS, go get a zero shock sleeve too :)

hi! all you computer experts out there i sincerely need ur help!
i got a dell inspirion 8600 note book, and my volume buttons and mute buttons dont work!
any way to make them work? plz help!
thanks!
I don't have this model, is it one with a row of media buttons in front (volume, mute, play, forward, backward, etc.) or does it just have a blue "Fn" key and you have to hold the Fn with some F keys to change volume?

First thing I suggest is to check whether this is truely a hardware problem instead of software. Are you still getting audio from the speakers? Can you adjust the volume using the soft volume control (usually appears as icon in the system tray, may need to enable the icon under control panel -> sound and audio devices -> check "place icon in system tray" box). Also check under Device Manager whether there is any audio driver being flagged as not working. If it has Fn key for volume control, does the Fn key still work when you use it to control the LCD brightness? Can also try running Dell's diagnostics to see if it can identify other hw problem (I think it's F8 when power on).

Hi, looking for some help/enlightment on my Dell Inspiron 4000 notebook's condition. Everything works fine till now, except the mouse cursor started to have a life of its own. I'd be surfing the net/using my applications, and suddenly the mouse cursor just moves all the way to the left/right side of the screen and stays there for some time. No matter what I do, I can't control it at all. After awhile, I'm able to regain control of the mouse cursor.

Would like to ask Dell owners if you've experienced this problem before, what is the cause and any solution to it besides sending to Dell for repair? Thanks a million!

new dell Inspiron 6000 user here.

i just got my laptop and im trying to use partition magic to make one more partition for my 60GB hardisk but i realise dell originally set the hdd to 4 partition already.
1) dell utility (60mb)
2) normal c: drive (50++GB)
3) shd be the backup image (close to 5GB)
4) unknown and unused (few mb)

according to partition magic, im only able to set 4 primary partition to one hdd which dell already use it up. any suggestion how can i partition another drive for data storage so that i won't lose my data if i format my comp.

is the 4) unknown drive got any use one? cos i saw it only less than mb memory and unused at all. can i delete this partition to create my own partition? Any comment or suggestion?

Hi all. If I'm to send my Dell for repair, where do I send it to? How long should I be expecting to wait? Thanks a lot!
