dell good but....

Hi. I do not normally post in this forum but it is good to read all the comments about Dell. First I would like to say that I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 that I bought 2 years ago. I had configured it to the higest specs avaliable at that time. P4 1.2mg with a 64ATI vid card and it cost $5200. I would like to say that it has never let me down so far, except that the vid card sometimes cannot handel intense use. :s22:
I do have two gripes about Dell in asia . First they do not have the top systems avaliable in the states. That is a real let down. Dell is allways trying to top out the competion in USA ,especially ALIENWARE , and so they come out with really good notebooks, like the XPS :s12: Its the first with a 512 graphic card,(I think).Wow.When I first asked the Dell repesentative a year ago if this system would come to sin.,they said probably, but it has been 2 generations of XPS already and still no good news. So I have determined that one would have to order it direct from USA if you really wanted it(and had the cash).
Next there is no trade in policy as well. If you wanted to upgrade, you would have to sell your old Dell to second hand dealers who are more interested in more brand names like Sony. Thus you will not get a good price. How does Dell expect to retain a loyal following like this?
Dell rep says that they can take in your old system and recycle it for free! That means the entire cost is totaly gone. This would no doubt lead many to look at other brands who mostly offer trade in for new purchaces. Dell take note :s31:
Thats all. Thanks.

I would like to talk about recycling and resale.

either should be done. Earth's resources are being depleted at an alarming rate. One day, we will even keep our sweet wrappers to recycle the aluminium.

Sale? considering that the Dell machines are sold at lower prices, I think it is not their duty to take in for you. other companies use this to encourage you to buy from them. Guess they would mark up the new machine price to cater to this? I am not sure.

I would advise you to top up for 3 yrs warranty.
Not sure about the current batch of Inspirons but the 510m, 600m and older batches do run into problems after certain mileage.
The Latitudes are better built and come with min 3 yrs wty.

Anyway, if you get tired of it in a yr's time, you can always sell it and having 3 yrs wty should fetch a higher resale value.

There is nothing spectacular about this notebook. Moreover this thread already runs to 100 plus already. :s22:
I consider it an accomplishment for me to have started a thread that has over 100 pages and is stickied :) We are also nearly reaching the 100 user mark and hopefully, we'll see more new users and make this thread bustling with activity :) Cheers to all.

1gb ram is good, warranty is also good. Is XP PRO really necessary? If it is then go for it :)

You will not know that the pc show offers. My experience from the March PC show tells me that the pc show not necessarily gives the best prices.

As long as the Dell sells cheaper relatively to the rest, you know that you can buy it now. :)

I kind of agree ...
It is not about the wait but the pricing.
You might just miss the good pricing if you wait till the PC show.

I'm using the 700m and it's almost the same as 710m except the colour of e lappy i tink. Anyway it's qt a gd lappy if you r not into heavy gaming as it only has intel graphic card. A light lappy tt weigh less than 2kg. If u buy e 8-cell batt, u can use e lappy for abt 5hrs n it's gd for outdoor usuage. The screen is gd for viewing movies if u dun mind e small screen compared to other laptops i have seen so far... But one bad thing i dun like abt dis lappy is it has only 2 usb port. Utimately, its still up to ur preference n usuage.
