DELL lappy repair take how long??

.. just to enquire in case there's a need... can send in to their kiosk at Suntec right??... My model is Inspiron 510m.. begun to hang lately, despite some precautionary maint. took place.. thanks for any advice ..

the symptoms
========
any advise how to deal with it?? normally, when hang l would jus remove the battery pack to reset the thing as the "reset" is stuck beneath the lappy body..

yesterday, l just did a scandisk and was not required to defrag the thing, also l had removed some obsolete software, and regularly "clean" my system.. so what could possibly be the cause to this "hanging"??

normaly, when using the lappy, l connected a USB hub, which in turn hooked up a fan and a Microsoft wireless mouse.. could it be the hardware that caused the
hanging?? thanks for any advise .. :(

Something I posted on another thread about fans:

It's easy to tell which way the fan blows, without turning it on. Just look at the blades of the fan. The surface of each blade will curve a bit, even if very slightly. Air will be sucked in from the convex side and blown out from the concave side.

To illustrate, hold up one of your hands, put your fingers together to emulate the way a fan blade curves. The direction your palm is facing is the direction the air is blowing towards. Or imagine using a spoon to scoop up soup to your mouth, then imagine the soup is the air, that's the direction it's blowing. Of course, this is not a good illustration, as fan blades don't curve all the way like a spoon, but you get the point (i hope).

The same applies to almost all fans (casing fan, HSF, the big fan in your room, etc.). Observe a few and you will know what I mean. Similarly, you can also determine which direction (clockwise, anticlockwise) the fan turns without turning it on.
On the bottom of laptops, I've seen fans with blades that are flat. They usually draws air into the laptop, and expels air at the side. Look at where the air outlet is relative to the fan. Or, when you turn on the laptop, just feel which way the air flows.

Hi,

I'm a newbie here and I'm currently looking for a notebook and I have filtered my choices to three models, Dell Inspiron 640m, Dell Inspiron 6400 and Acer Aspire 5540/5541(these three virtually have the same specs). Any suggestions on what should I buy? Please state pros and cons.
Or if there is another brand I haven't looked at that is more superior to the brands above but approximately having the same price, please do give me info. Thanks.

I'm using 640m, pretty happy with it... :) if branding is not a problem for u, then Dell shld be ur choice (its cheaper :s13: ). if u need a bigger screen then will be 6400 then. :)

Hello dell users, i am planning to get the Dell Inspiron 6.4k. But i have heard of bad things about Dell's service and all that.

When you are still covered by the 1 year warranty, i understand that (when there are problems) dell will send their technician to your home (that is what on-site is referring to i suppose?) service your notebook is it true?

Do you guys know after the 1 year warranty, what usually happens if your dell notebook breaks down? Will it be very hard to find someone to service it?

Hi!

Got a new 6400 and been using it for the pass week...:)

Everything is working perfectly. Not much heavier compare with other laptop that I've used though it's bigger due to the screen size. Battery life is good, getting above 3hours so far...:)

As for quality, it's actually better than I expected. For the price, I don't think I can complain much... :s13:

I'm using Del Inspiron 6400. I suppose the graphics card is the same. And Warcraft III runs perfectly fine. Can try the video options maybe.

Agree! using inspiron 6400. those people saying dell's no good are those who do not use them. seldom see any complain from dell users
