me didnt get any protective cover... but if u are interested u can go sls or funan and walk ard to look for bargain. Best is that u bring ur lappy down with u... dun wan to buy liao then not big enough to cover the whole screen.

1. anyone know where to get the keyboard protective cover also, like the ones they use on macs !! i need one for XPS 1210 keyboard size ...

2. also anyone know what is the default speed of the ram provided from DELL ? basically the option for ram if its not the 533 and not the 667.

2a. How much would a one stick of such ram cost ?

Hihi All, i just ordered my 640m online! But i am still a bit worried that i didnt extend the warranty and just left it at 1 year. Hope that everything goes well.

Funny why they havent charge to my debit card yet?

I wanna get the protective cover for both the screen and the keyboard, anyone have any idea? Went to funan to find but to no avail. Theres one nice one for the 3M screen, but it costs whopping 158 dollars! So far only mac got keyboard protectors...

Get 677 Mghz DDR2 RAM. Most shops have them. I got 1GB Kingston to extend to 2GB. To be safe, take ur laptop in to the shop and ask them to install, so if it dont work, dont buy.

Hi! Just wanna share my experiences for the Dell XPS M1210

The first thing that strikes you is the small size and portability of the notebook, kinda make you think whether Dell really designed it or not.

Ok, pros of the note book:

Portability
Wonderful monitor with a crisp display
Good built in wifi
Reasonably loud speakers
Responsive touchpad
Good battery life (with 9 cell)
Attractice 84-key keyboard

And the Cons:

Notebook can get hot with long usage (advisable to get notebook cooler)
Rather glitchy network port
Can get eye strain after some time due to 12.1 inch monitor
Notebook cover is vulnerable to fingerprints

Feel free to leave your comments.

You can fix the network port by disabling powersave on standby in the quickset. I found kep on not working (had to disable/enable), but this fixed it.

today is Sunday... local banks not working... erm... debit card think can only do full payment, definitely cant get the installment plans.

er... my normal screen works fine arh... nothing wrong w it.
1yr warranty arh... i say its all abt luck with electronics...
Formatting... i cant really say its feasible or not cos its ur personal choice but to me, i feel its not necessary cos u may loose programmes, n configuration probs?

If you format your computer, you'll wipe out everything including the Ghost Image (hidden partition); you won't be able to use the Ctrl+F11 Ghost Recovery Program.

You can install everything back with the exception of the Ghost Image. The MediaDirect program is a little tricky to re-install.

The computer comes with Windows XP, Drivers and Program disk.

ya... Dell gives u lotsa installation Cds... mmm... Dell takes up abt 10GB for the Ghost Image... its ur own call...
As for the screen... haha, if $$ is not a problem for u, n u r eager to have the upgrade then go for it loh... call Dell's hotline, the CSOs will sure be willing to help u de. "total Dell experience"

Butties sorry to probe again but wat is the ghost image? Does it help you to restore your computer when it crashes?

ya... nowadays think all brand lappies/pc got ghost image... its like a back-up loh... when ur computer crashes, use it to restore... but then, Dell's plus point is, they give u all the CDs also...

better dun remove the ghost image....u can do quick restore in 15-20mins, rather than u reinstall the whole windows(when got problem, or regular format, etc.)

This is what I did to my DELL Inspiron 6400 hard disk:

1. Delete all partitions and created a C: and D: partition

2. Installed Windows XP and programs I frequenly use on C:

3. Moved My Document to D: to protect my data

4. Create multiple images of C: onto D:; approximately 1 image a month; this will allow me to recovery my C: whenever it gets corrupted when I test new software

5. Backup my D: on a 2.5" external hard disk.
