u reformated using the xp cd?

did u restore back the ghost image as what some of them said?

I format using PartitionMagic.

I did not keep the original image because I create my own image using Drive Image e.g.

1st image = Windows XP + drivers only

2nd image = Windows XP + drivers + all updates

3rd image = Windows XP + drivers + all update + all software

This will allow me to restore to any image I want.

hi, using dell inspiron 6400 here. got some problem with my LAN here. after connecting the lan cable and setup the network wizard, it takes a long time to aqcuire the add and after some time it says limited or no connectivity. does the problem lie with the network card or the setting? anyone ever experienced this before? can anyone help? thanks.

limited or no connectivity... maybe ur configuration not done properly? maybe not able to detect ur IP address or something... :)

why go thru all these troubles when u already have a 2.5" external HDD? let ur lappy run as it is... then backup on the external HDD loh... anyway, think no matter how many partitions u have, if the HDD is corrupted... its as good as all are gone... :)

try removing the configured port... then remove the lan cable n plug in again, let Win XP detect it n help u configure... :) see how.

if i'm not wrong... remember reading a part on removing the keyboard section in the guide book of my 640m... u go look thru ur guide book ,think its written in there... :)

Is your connection congested (eg. is your router busy handling BT traffic from another PC)? I sometimes get the "limited or no connectivity" error, and have to go to control panel, disable the LAN device and enable it again, so it will go acquire connection again.

Or do you have a complicated LAN set up (eg. multiple routers, perhaps another router/PC/device is also acting as DHCP server)?

I'm using the LAN to connect my laptop to my friend's laptop. I've also tried disabling and reenabling the network adapter a few times but it still doesn't work.

huh? u use LAN cable to connect ur lappy with ur fren's lappy?? u mean directly connected between 2 lappies? Dont think it'll work... :) Lan cable gotta be connected to a network adapter/router/server ba... if u wan to transfer files directly, maybe u can try using USB cable instead... :)

Can be done with a crossover lan cable...no router or switch is required.
USB is not advisable as u need special USB cable. If u use normal USB to connect directly, u will risk burning the USB controller.

cos removing programmes inevitably affect the registry, even the programmes are deleted, some registry stuff still stays in ur computer... not sure if it would slow the computer down more..hehe
