Hi,

I am using a dell . Recently, I tried to use my cd drive, insert disc, lights up for a while, then light disappears.

Problem 1.

Have check device manager. Shows Sumsun$ $24$ ( with all the wierd $$ symbols) . Its supposed to be a sumsung drive. Openedup the drive at the base, but cannot see any cables to unplug and plug in again.

Problem 2.

I insert in my wireless pcmcia card, searched for ntworks for a little while, then the icon shows your card has is disabled. Went into the control panel for wireless and the click for enable wireless is not there.

Can anyone help me???

1. Try update firmware for Samsung drive on DELL support site

2. You enable your wireless adapter at Network Connections>Wireless Network Connection

the knocking sound is quite loud....all cd/dvds I put in will produce sound like the disc is trembling in it when spinning. Did any bro here has your Dell 640m playing cd/dvd without this knocking sound?

If it's under warranty, get them to replace it.

hey guys, check with u all ah... anyways to get the latest GM945 graphic controller for 640m? apparently Dell Website driver for Vista is old version... onli ver 7. Intel website one already reach ver15.4...

Anyone got XPS M1210??? How come my one so hot on the left side har?? very cialat ler. I type also feel not comfortable.
Thinking of buying cooler pad. Any recommendations for XPS M1210?? and where to buy?

hmm I'm using the M1210, dont experience such issues as you mentioned.

The left side is where the exhaust is at, it does get warm for me but not hot.

left side is hot due to the HDD,but should not be too hot,maybe u chk ur temp first and let us know....

Well, the hot spot is not from left bottom but it is from the side left of the laptop. It blew hot air. I think a bit stupid the design. Should blow to the back not to the side.

hehe well yea I agree with you. but most laptops have their exhaust @ the side and batteries @ the back. (will be heating up the batteries if blow out from the back :X

Use HD Tune and tell us the exact temperature.

If you elevate the bottom of the notebook, it'll definately help to dissipate some of the heat.

i understand wat u mean....coz i used my 640m to play games too and it does feel hot,but it doesn't effect me coz i use mouse most of the time.u might try to use rubber to lift the back/bottom,it helps a little.

The XPS 1210 hard disk is located below the palm rest. That's why fls feel the heat more.

The 640M hard disk is near the right-side under the keyboard, as such you do not feel the heat so much.
