Dell U2415 and U2515H

Looking at monitors recently and filtered down to these 2 models.

U2415 is 16:10, FHD, $499.
U2515H is 16:9, QHD, $579.

Other than that the rest of the specs look similar?

Price difference looks reasonably proportionate too. But wanna know, for QHD, is there any catch? Analogy is like watching SD shows on HD/FHD TV sux... will QHD has such downscaling issue with normal use like browsing, photos/video?

I'm using Asus GTX 750.

I'm using Asus GTX 750.

Interpolation always sucks to an extent but unless you are super anal, the drop off in quality when upscaling HD to QHD to me isn't noticeable. I watch HD movies on my QHD monitor and it's fine to me.

I'm using Asus GTX 750.

I choose U2515H because i am already using a FHD samsung monitor. Since i want to upgrade, i decided to try with QHD. Everything is the same just that with QHD, due to more pixels, everything will seems slightly smaller.

You will require a period of time to adapt to it.

Uber summary. QHD vs FHD comes down to 1. GPU capabilities and 2. pixel density (how close do you sit to the monitor)

At 25" FHD is quite alright at 60cm to 1m distance from monitor

Aspect ratio 16:10 gives you the "real" FHD experience (like cinema). 16:10 is not the standard aspect ratio (16:9) used today but its more so for graphic design (1920 x 1200)

I would choose Dell U2515H. It is 1440p and it has the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Wait for IT show 2016 for promo.

Nope. Just infinity edge bezel and better out-of-the-box colour accuracy.

I am a user of U2515H, and I think its a good upgrade over the U2415. At least for my case, the higher pixel density results in better image from my perspective. But one thing to note is that Windows and some programs cannot scale properly and may result in a slightly fuzzy looking image at times. But this is not a show stopper for me.

I feel the sweet spot for 1440p is 27". Also do note that if you go up in native resolution, your GPU needs to keep up especially in games. Otherwise you'll have to game in a "non native" resolution. Some games scale well, some monitors scale well, some don't. something to take note of.

It may be the case when it comes to scaling, but 27 inch may not be for everyone. For me 25 inch is likely the max I will go for or recommend as a monitor since we are sitting quite close to it. Some people enjoy massive monitors in front, but I am sure its not for everyone.

4k is the way to go if you have the money! Otherwise stick to 1440p.
