hi, i have a pretty old desktop. it powers on and all the fans are running but there is no beep or any display. after trying a few times to force restart, it powers on for like less than a second and then shuts off, and then repeats itself. the last time i tried, there was a huge pop sound and the circuit breaker tripped.

is it likely that there is an issue with the PSU? this are the stats:

INTEL CORE I5-6500 SOCKET 1151 3.20 GHZ QUAD CORE PROCESSOR
GIGABYTE B150M-D3H SOCKET 1151 MOTHERBOARD
G.SKILL F4-2400C15S-8GNT 8GB MEMORY
SUPERFLOWER SF-550F14MG LEADEX 550W FULL MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD POWER SUPPLY UNIT
COOLERMASTER N200 MINI TOWER CHASSIS
GTX 750 TI 2GB

if replacing PSU, any recommendations that can fit with my current set up? saw some recommendations for seasonic...would Seasonic FOCUS GX-650 work for my set up? thanks.

If loud pop that means the power supply is burnt, suggest not to try again
else risk of the entire PC won't be able to function again.
Suggest bring to a shop let them troubleshoot, if after changing power supply
doesn't work than you will have to change a new PC.

Often PSU blow will take out the entire PC.

Either PSU or MOBO.
Open up and see/smell with Torchlight.

You’re taking a slight gamble that changing the PSU will solve the problem and that your board/other components are not blown. I would bring to the shop for them to troubleshoot, or borrow a spare, working PSU from someone to try else risk buying a new PSU for a system that is blown

A note if you’re trying to swap PSUs to troubleshoot. Do not reuse the PSU cables from the old unit with the new PSU as oftentimes they are not interchangeable even if the pin layouts may look the same, unless you’re buying the same series in a brand.
I just realised that when I was fishing in my bag of old modular Seasonic cables because they are sleeved as compared to my new Corsair SF750 and realized the contacts looked different for the PCI-e cables lol
