Hi guys!

I'm looking to build a desktop that processes building information hosted on a local server and outputs it onto several screens (3D building models and other information).
The budget is at 2.5k
Do you guys have any idea what components are suggestible?

I was looking at,
1. i7 ?
2. GTX 1080 or GTX 1070
3. 512GB SSD and 2TB HDD
4. 32GB DDR4
5. Motherboard?
6. Water-cooling?
7. Adapter for output to several screens
8. mITX?

No need for monitors
If there's any advice you'd like to share,
please feel free to let me know

Thanks!

I would have recommended a Xeon but your budget is rather limited for something that is going to do...

...actually it's not clear from your description what you're exactly going to do.

Are you doing some kind of facilities management? Those that just show the status of the equipment throughout the building?

Then the 3D picture of the building is not processing intensive (or even considered 3D).

Avoid USB to display converters as they are essentially USB graphics cards with limited capabilities including limited hardware acceleration, resolution, refresh rate (heck, it can be called update rate). Have two graphics cards if you need many screens.

Intel still has advantage over AMD in commercial applications due to hardware and software compatibility. But if you need the CPU power, go Ryzen.

Oh and screw that water cooling, no commercial implementation uses that except for a few where there is really a TON of processing power cramped in a tiny space. We're talking about 4-digit 5-digit wattage power supply per enclosure.

Heck, the nVidia DGX-2 uses 10kW and it still runs on air.

Is not that bad

The workstations i do for the same purpose go for 64gb...
Because ah.. Property in Singapore so expensive.... No ned to skimp when designing them. ;)

Hi you're quite on point.
It's a building system that will be capable of showing 3D modelling.

Having no water cooling makes sense
but do you have any advice if one GTX1080 is sufficient or 2 would be more sensible ?
The output goes to about 6 screens

6 screens can he handled by two graphics cards... Do you need GTX1080? If not GTX1050 will do fine. Less powerful GPU = less chance of failure.

As for how much CPU and GPU you really need, this one you should know your program better than us. Same advices as previous post. Likely you would be going Intel at this rate. Similarly on the GPU front, nVidia is the safer choice over AMD and Intel.
