Hi guys,

How do I pinpoint which part of my comp is faulty? A few weeks back (probably 2 weeks ago), my comp suddenly just keeps on restarting by itself by having a sudden power off and on. Some times, it would happen again after a while, or at the windows loading or even before the loading screen starts.

I took my case out and vacuum the exterior, and it works fine then. But just today, I encountered similar problem again, the same thing happened to me twice. I usually on my comp for the whole day (from morning to night) and so far these 2 incident happened during the evening/ night.

I searched on the internet, it's said that it could be my PSU, but how do I actually check it? And also, using HWMonitor, the temps of various components seems fine to me..

Specs,
PSU: Aurum 92+ 550W
MB: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
CPU: Intel Core i5-4440
GFX: MSI GTX 750Ti Gaming OC

Need some advise, thanks!

ram will cause the whole comp to turn off power?:s11:
this happened before I bought a new gfx card (just gotten it ytd), so I doubt gfx is the problem here...
maybe will get one psu and test, but how do I actually know if it's the psu fault? Cause usually, I encountered this after having my comp on for like 9hrs++

Thanks for your suggestions though.

Can download and run BlueScreenView, see if the restarts are caused by a BSOD.

To see if the PSU is at fault, get another PSU, install it in your system and see if the problem comes up again.

definitely not bsod. So in the end, I still have to find another PSU... is there anything that I can use to test my current psu for fault?:s11::s11:

You can't. If your PSU has suspected issues with voltage regulation, you are going to have to use specialised PSU testing equipment to confirm that the PSU has issues with voltage regulation. Borrowing a PSU for testing is the fastest way to know if the PSU is at fault other than using specialised equipment.

But its like.. 2 times I encountered this issue, once it was like 2 weeks back and the second it is today. Only when this issue occur, then the persistent power on/ off thing keep happening over and over again. If not, it's like normal...

will find another psu to try out soon..

If your comp toggle on and off without booting then the PSU might be faulty.

thanks. any methods to confirm? So far mine is like.. surfing net halfway, suddenly turn off, then 1 sec later auto turn on. Then boot up normally > windows loading screen> back to welcome page. Or boot up normally > suddenly turn off again when loading screen just pop up or even earlier..

Btw, how do I test if it's the motherboard instead? Is it if can't boot up means motherboard faulty? Or got some sound or something like that?

How can he help?:s11::s11:

Btw guys, I'm still using the computer and trying to get the same problem to come out again but to no avail.... :s13::s13:

In this situation, if I bring the parts/ or system to an expert/ or service centre, they can't do much to detect the issue too right..?

Check and see if there are any bloated capacitors on the motherboard. They might be the cause.

Google capacitor plague n look for the wiki page, it has images of these faulty caps.

If you know how to desolder n replace the caps, cost will be less than $10.

Most likely is your Graphic Card..

PSU won't cause auto reboot unless is under rated.

Run mentest86+ with only single ram at a time.

Check also your CPU temp...

my graphics card is newly bought. the issue happened way before I bought and installed my new graphics card...

My comp did not auto reboot. It auto turned off and on over and over again, without bsod or any warning. When the issue occurs, it just keep looping, even way before the windows is loading screen.

Definitely not underrating my wattage as previously, was using 550W to power my comp (see my specs on the right side).

Tried with other PSU for 1 week no issue. Swapped back for 1 week the issue came back. So I rma my psu. Funny thing is that the guy from the service centre never check it there's fault first before swapping a new psu for me, so can't really 100% confirm is my old psu that's faulty. If issue still reappears, should be my mb liao but so far so good.. :)
