I'm using a Denon RCD 38 and I'm very happy with it. The current version is the RCD 41

Those not familiar basically it's the stereo receiver in D-M38AB set
but current model is D-M41AB.
The set consist of the receiver and a speaker, you can check
if you can just buy the receiver than pair with your own speaker.

Denon have so many mini amp/receiver. Some cheaper or got spotify maybe.

i'm using the nad c328, hybrid digital integrated.

quite happy with it, managed to get a good price on it when lenbrook awhile back, it might be a tad pricey but quite worth it imo. i think retail is under 1k, so should fit in the category, it is a full sized amp though, if space is a constraint, best to look at the 3020 or similar.

also it comes with a built in dac, and phono, works but of course, as all built in stuff, it just works.

I'm sure the C328 is a great amp but its too big to consider as a desktop amp for most, if one considers this then all the full-size options like marantz cambridge and audiolab have to be included alr haha.

I used full size amps like Cambridge 640A / Rotel RA-02 too but it took up too much space on my desk imo.

Pulled the trigger on the Burson Funk and Aiyima A07. Can't wait to compare them with the D3020.

Interesting reading the good reviews of the C328.. seems like class D is really becoming a viable alternative. Perhaps soon we can have cool running but good sounding AVRs as well.

I am using vsx c510. serving me well for years. Too bad pioneer do produce slim class d avrs anymore

Google cannot find c510.. but found c501, the specs looks like those HTIB sets, not like the NAD which have specs closer to class a/b amps.

I would've thought most AVRs with more than a few hundred watts total have already switched to class D these days

A 500W AVR with class AB would require roughly the same amount of cooling as a computer.

Most AVRs are class AB, which is why they run hot. The Denon x3700h power consumption is over 600w. The slim Onkyo tl50 using class d power consumption only around 60w. Think most soundbar should be using class d though. So good class d sound quality is getting better.

Just something I have to pitch in:
The type of amplification can have a sonic signature, but it doesn't mean one class of amps is definitely better than another.

yes its 501. I bought it from a parallel improter many years back. its class d amp. they released another slim class av amp vsx 520 couple of years back but i believe its discontinued.

Somehow smaller amps just dont get much attention, unless got things like streaming features, the bluesound powernode 2i gets way more media attention than the D3045.

It seems like only audiosciencereview has active participation when it comes to small amps that are for desktop use, but most attention is on cheap chip china amps and hypex or icepower power amps.

I thought most are still Class AB, but like the numbers are all fudged ba, they mayb hit 500W for 0.01 seconds? Somemore even when the wattage high it feels like current is low

Maybe he meant 500w per channel? Anyway which ones got so much power? I see denon flagship x8500h only has 150w per channel.

Havent gotten it yet, maybe end of month then they will ship out.

I did receive the Aiyima A07 though, pretty good for a chip amp and quite powerful, just that it still has some of that digital flatness/thinness common in class D
