Hi!

Not sure where to post this but i'm looking for a reliable place to repair my desktop.

It's an Alienware X51 R2, but Dell no longer has local support.

Its come on, the fan makes noise but it shuts off after 1-2 secs and then keeps trying and trying until i pull the power plug out.

TIA!

try sls #02-32 I never engaged their service before but heard that they charge a reasonable price and even give free trouble shooting (if you meet their condition).

yes, you can try this method too, not only the ram golden contact, your gpu and sound card too (if happen you have).

Complication I foresee is Alienware likes to use its own proprietary parts, some of them either irregular shape or non-standard size. Can be hard to find replacement.

i having similiar problem too atm...

when turn on, cpu fan spin abt 1-2 sec stop, it keep repeating for abt 15-20min den only i can hear the hdd trying to spin up wit a 1 sec click for abt 10min den slowly the hdd will spin abt 5 sec and shut down (the sound is similiar to car trying to start up, the engine come on and dies off ) it take another abt 10-15 min b4 hdd can fully spin up and bring up the startup repair or boot in normal screen...

everything work lik normal once i boot into window can use for 24hr oso wont get any random auto shutdown...

but if i shutdown the pc from window and turn off power, the above problem come back again when i try to start the pc again...

Doesnt sound like RAM problem, so dont bother taking it out like the suggestion above.

take out hard disk and put inside desktop computer

Use hdtune to check health.

Hi OKorNOT,

It does sound like a PSU issue. However, you might want to try to unplug your hard drive and see if the same problem persist. You may use hdtune to check the health of your hard drive. I once experienced a long time POST-ing. After I removed that drive, it all goes well and fast. Hope this helps.

Hi OKorNOT,

You should unplug your drive totally. If you prefer to have the cable plugged in, you should remove the data cable rather than the power cable. If the data cable is still connected, the PC will still try to read it. If by removing all cables and still same issue, you might want to change your CPU thermal paste. Its possible overheating. Let it rest for 30mins to an hour and try powering on. If same issue, it isnt overheating. By then, there is no harm to clear CMOS. How to clear, remove the battery on the motherboard. Before opening up the pc, please ground yourself fist. Hope this helps.

First of all, thanks to everyone who gave suggestions and PMed me to offer their help.

I tried this - took out the RAM and just rubbed my eraser over the gold contact areas and my computer is working!! I didn't dare to post too early but it has been 2-3 days and it has been working perfectly.

Thanks to everyone who helped! :D
