Desktop shutdown and restart

Have you tried swapping GPU to the 2nd (PCIE x8) slot, do a 5 - 10 min GPU stress test via Msi Kombuster or Heaven Benchmark to rule out anything funny going on with the 1st PCIE slot (x16)?

Recently found out I had a defective PCIE X16 slot on my 9 year old MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mobo. Symptoms were, GPU crashing randomly, hard freeze in game then PC reboot. Most likely wear and tear from many years of usage.

I did try swapping but the 2nd PCIE slot seems not to turn on.

I tried taking out GPU and booting but same issue of restarting.

I remove one ram also same

But yes. if mb or cpu spoil might as well get a new rigg

you know how to reformat pc? also, can you PC POST? as in show the screen where it ask you to press some key to go to BIOS?

the desktop shut down and then restart cycle comes in just secs after i press the startup button.

previously when it starts i can reach the windows log in page.

But now other than shut down and restart, there is no display coming out also be it hdmi or DP.

try remove your boot drive and see if the restart cycle still continue. Normal behaviour without bootdrive, it will just stuck at a screen saying missing boot media.

If the restart start continue after u remove your boot drive then i think, likely is your ram, mb or cpu liao since your psu changed

i supposed if remove boot drive and GPU then if restart still happen then is mother board mosrt likely rite?

I have tried only 1 ram and without GPU but still happen.

Will try with boot drive, GPU.

Anyway have also decided to build a rig also since my rig was done in 2017.

Do give advise to me this noob if can

actually hor, for your case ez to test for GPU and bootdrive. you should have friend or relative right? just take your harddisk and gpu to their house and install them to their system and try to start. GPU and harddisk quite portable.

If they have the boot loop with GPU and boot drive then either of them spoil. if not, your motherboard or cpu shoould be gone liao.
