Desktop Upgrade help!!

Hi all, i was thinking to upgrade my desktop to be able to upgrade and play some AAA title games in decent framerate but do not know what to get to replace the ram and GPU, hope you guys can advise.

my current rig:
MB :MSI Z87-G45 GAMING
CPU:Intel® Core™ i5-4570 Processor @ 3.2Ghz
GPU :MSI R9 290 GAMING 4G
RAM : G.skill RipjawsX 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3-1866

I guess it will be helpful if you can advise on your budget.

For decent framerate of AAA games is very subjective.

I suggest you to save at least $2.5k and build the new PC next year if you prefer intel that will have new CPU launched in 2 months time.

If you can find another 2X4GB of DDR3-1866 or DDR3-1600 cheap (say around S$30), you can consider upgrading the RAM. Otherwise, it would make more sense to do a CPU+MB+DDR4 upgrade.

As for the GPU, I would suggest a used GTX1070 or GTX1070Ti. No point spending the money on the latest GPUs as the rest of your rig would be the bottleneck.

Agree. your setup is quite old, so unless your getting a full revamp, if you wish to continue using this build, going for a 2nd hand 10 series card might be the most bang for buck route. A brand new card might get bottlenecked by the rest of your hardware

Better to get new card and be bottlenecked then an old card. When got money can just upgrade cpu+mobo+ram, gpu settled. Don't need to buy 2x

Get a 3060Ti and upgrade to 16GB RAM

If u got higher budget like 1k above, upgrade to

i5 10th gen
16Gb DDR4 RAM
1TB SSD
3060Ti GPU

Shld be able to run latest games with decent framerate.

Your specs similar to mine. Like 85%, I just got myself a 5600XT in April and call it a day.

I would say having 3060ti as your first Graphics Card upgrade option will be a good start.

I wouldn't recommend you to upgrade your Ram at the moment as it would be kind of a little waste of money to buy DDR3 Ram right now.

I would rather you upgrade your system starting with GPU then the rest later.

I don't think your rig can play AAA title even if u up the GPU to a 3060 (if u managed to buy it). Your CPU & RAM is already bottlenecked. Your CPU is same as mine & I hv 16GB RAM. A 1070 is already bottlenecking my rig when I play high graphic title. If you hv intention to upgrade the rest of your rig next year, you may want to get a 3060 or so so that you can still use it with the new rig. If no intention to upgrade,then get a 1660 super or 2nd hand 1070 Ti is the best our rig can handle.

Above is a good choice, if you play at 1080p every games shd be running butter smooth.
