Current specs

i5-4460
Asrock h81m hds
Crucial 8gb ddr3 x 2
Samsung Evo 860
Zotac GTX 960 2GB
Cosair VS650 PSU
CM K380

Set up was done more than 10years ago and seems like the mobo died today.

May be able to salvage gpu, psu. SSD is still working well.

What should I upgrade to for light gaming usage?

if it worked satisfactorily before the mobo presumably failed, then u should be fine with just a mobo replacement. should be easy to find working h81 (or other lga1150) mobos on carousell. if don't want to go through the hassle of troubleshooting, then get a low end current gen cpu + mobo with ddr4 ram, shouldn't bottleneck your 960. if budget allows, might also be a good idea to get a new psu too.

Change the motherboard to either H87/Z87/Z97 motherboard on Caurosell.
H81 is a basic board, it lacks features like PCIE 3.0 etc.
The 960 is running on PCIE2.0 on H81 so once you change to H87/Z87 it will run on PCIE3.0
which mean faster.

Too high, I see if I saw any I will share here.
PSU wise depends on you as well as any issue like sometimes cannot turn on.
Budget PSU would be Seasonic S12III 650 Watt with 5 years warranty at $99.

well u did mention the rig was built over 10 years ago, i wouldnt be surprised if the psu is no longer running within spec. who knows if it was actually a psu issue that caused ur mobo to die. but again only worth thinking about if u have excess budget and willing to do extra work, is more of erring on the side of caution.

I see. Probably will go ahead with a PSU purchase first then. And hopefully it is the cause of the entire issue.
