Did i receive a bad ryzen chip?

i have a 1600x, i tried 1.425v @ 4.1.. start game instant blackout.

Very few chips do 4.1, many (including mine) hit a wall at around 4.025, 4.050 GHz where it becomes really difficult to stabilize despite throwing crazy voltages at it.

Your chip isn't one of the "golden" ones, but it doesn't necessarily suck either. How much voltage do you need for 4.0?

Pretty much this TS. iirc the performance increase above 3.7 or 3.8 Ghz is not worth the voltage and temps required to run at higher frequencies anyways

use other serious software to stress test ... if "game-able" only .... it may corrupt your data in the weeks

Not all chip can do 4.1ghz. Its like hitting a lottery for 4.1ghz and above.

Most users with 1600x should be able to hit 4ghz-4.05ghz.

If you are having an ocd for every ounce of mhz, including like how you wanna push your ram. You got to fine tune other settings inside bios. Else at 4ghz with 2933mhz ram is good enough. Unless you really not satisfied.

sad to see the lower priced 1600 can outperform my chip.

yes.. i thought 1.425 was plenty because amd don't recommend higher than that.. who knew it instantly failed. never expected it..

How did you set your overclock? Screenshot your Bios? What other things have you set? RAM any overclock?

Last time your VRM temps mentioned on the other thread already in the 90s under 1.3V iirc? You have any fan next to VRM to lower its temps?

i set it on ryzen master, adjusted vcore and clockspeed.

For the bios, i have enabled xmp for rams running at 2933MHz, turned off cool and quiet.

The rest are default settings.

I know there are some configurations that can increase the OC as i have seen on reddit, haven't had the time to mess with those settings plus i don't really know what those stuff do.

No, just the exhaust fan at the back.. i was told the temps are normal and it can go up to 130c without issues so didn't bother anymore.

Turn off your XMP settings first and get your correct CPU clock speed first. Check if you can run 4ghz with the RAM running at stock speed.

Go into BIOS and set your Vcore and your clock speed. Then stress test using other applications such as Aida64.

The reason why i used software to OC is because my asrock mobo doesn't recover from fail OC at all and everytime it fails i need to remove battery which is located under my h212 heatsink.

Just run 2133mhz first. See if it is a problem. When you do OC, just set everything to default and OC your cpu frequency first. Not unless you know what you are doing and you know your PC hardware well.

Then high likely would be your RAM preventing you to boot up again. As mentioned before, only do CPU OC first. Then only do your RAM later.

At first i thought it wouldn't affect the OC cos my ram was running below it's advertised speeds.

later I'll try running at 2133MHz and see whether the OC can go higher, thanks for the advice appreciate it.

Could be Vdroop under load. Are you using LLC (load line calibration)?

But before you dive into playing with LLC, do make sure it's not VRM thermal throttling first. Do what others have suggested- blow some air over the VRM heatsinks and do some testing.
