I was resetting win 10 on my computer with dvd. After disk 3 complete, it says complete and you need to choose you settings, install programs that do not come with the system, etc. Then I click finish, restart begins...suddenly I realized that my dvd is still inside and I should have ejected the dvd and take it out before clicking finish. Within 2 seconds, I instantly pressed dvd button on the front bezel. The dvd did eject, but before I could take it out, it quickly retracted back. I pressed again, grab the disk, before fully ejecting the disk, the dvd rom retracts back again. It was a slim dvd rom and I couldn't take the disk out without more opening. I pull the disk, forced the rom to open more, and managed to take it out.
The tragedy happened. The pc never start. I cannot even see the hp logo.
What did I interrupt?
Tried a few times, sreen never lights up although can see fan and hdd spin! So motherboard just died like that? :-(

Reseat your RAM and GPU. The HP s5-1460d RAM slots are quite fussy. If the RAM is not inserted just nice, it won't boot. You probably loosened the connection in your manly struggles with the recalcitrant DVD drive. :s13:

Thanks the two gents for advising. Tested everything else working... Sad
So my stupid action killed the motherboard. Don't hold the dvd rom when system roboots! That might damage your mobo!
Although I still don't understand why this happened.

I don't think you can kill a MB this way. You might want to try more trouble-shooting.

btw I have a HP s5-1460d as well. How do you attach the HDD? I can only fit a single screw in the right side (the crescent-shaped hole) and none on the left side. There doesn't seem to be any way to fit in more screws.

There are screws on the left. You need to lift up the optical drive to access it. 2 screws each.

Thanks, I'll give it another shot should I decide to put in a HDD (now using SSD only).

No ODD as I prefer external drives.

I have 4 screws, two accessible after removing the front bezel. The other two you need to Flip up the dvd cage towards the front bezel, then you can see the screws holes on the left.

I honestly don't think pulling on your dvd rom will kill your mobo, likely something came loose, as others have mentioned. but what and where, that's a whole other level of trouble shooting. I had something like that before, and it was my dvi cable to the mobo, somehow it was loose.

hopefully it works out for you.

Well I haven't tried that. But this is half height card drawing power directly from the mobo.
But will be fun to try " pull and pull". :)

I mean your graphic card cable connecting to your display, i am not referring to the graphic card. I have this pc, i know it's a half height card and even if you throw the pc on the floor the card will still be in place, that is how secure it is.

Tested cpu, gpu, hdd all working individually. Like you said another level of troubleshooting skills and patience is needed.I gave it up...

Perhaps your boot device sequence first few items (before HDD) and you made ur optical drive uplorry?

Perhaps it attempted boot into the optical drive (semi-working), you can set HDD as boot device 1 or unplug your optical drive SATA cable to see if it skips to HDD and boots.
