Difference between a DIY and a ready made cpu

Good morning people! would like to find out what's the difference between having a cpu fixed up at sls as compared to one of those readily bought by asus. Is there a huge specs difference or would the cost all lie in the aesthetics and software bundled in it?

Both. DIY will be cheaper, faster, chio-er, more quality, tailored to your specific needs, and comes with longer warranty for most parts. Only trouble is to troubleshoot and reservice the parts yourself.

Cost wise, diy is more worth it.

Reason is that, for diy, you can lower the cost for some part and spend it on other part. E.g lower mobo/hdd cost, spend it on gpu/ssd.

1 bad thing about diy is that, you'll need to troubleshoot yourself

For those pre-made, you are paying more for the after service and the item inside the com sometime cannot win diy.

DIY is both cost effective and you can get higher end specs as a consumer. Not only you get good aesthetics out of it, warranty period is longer for each individual parts.

The down side, when things goes south, you need to troubleshoot your own. Take the faulty parts down to the service centre and get it replaced.

You can take any branded pc and compare. On paper, they looks the same specs, but the parts you are getting is OEM parts, and parts customized to their own specifications.

Then when your female friends need help with their comp/laptop, you can be their white knight

if you cook up a parts list yourself you can pair a $500 cpu + motherboard with a $500 to $1000 graphic card
that would be very good for gaming purpose

buy from branded they will go up in price tier and more likely restrict you to i7 non K ... overall price much higher ... but non K chip single threaded still nearly the same as i5 ... both 3.5ghz around there ... it's the i7 branding makes consumers "think" it is a better gaming machine
buying from SLS shop "recommendations" is also susceptible to this ... they pair i7 cpu with $300 graphic card and call it a gaming machine .... because consumer who don't follow tech news will not be able to easily tell the graphic card's price and performance from the model number but they can remember "i5 good, i7 best"

if you DIY, you can have a really nice and powerful setups.. especially for people like me with OCD can have everything perfect and to my liking, go youtube and search setup wars.

Ready made, depends on what you meant, if you bought branded one from asus/dell they will service fr you, but it takes quite long.. better fr u to do it yourself.

Diy = cheaper and more customise but ownself trouble shoot and warranty ownself go distro to RMA.

Branded = more exp but warranty covered by company of the brand and which also cover support for trouble shoot.

One very important difference is diy u can choose a good psu..branded pc gives u lousy just enough wattage psu.
