What differences are there between ft and pt degrees? I know for one is that pt degree has night classes... is there difference in recognition? E.g. pt accounting degree less recognised than ft accounting degree

There are no difference between them. Just that PT have to juggle between work and school which is kinda tough depending on individual. Definitely that also means that the the time you have to complete your individual assignments as well as your group assignments are squeezed together too. Your class will be together with all the other PT students.
However, on the upper hand is that PT students get to gather experience while studying (though the total study period is longer than FT students).
At the end of the day i suggest you weight the opportunity cost between FT and PT. That being said, it is base on the assumption that you can afford both.

Let use Electrical as an example.

In NUS, PT is call BTech while FT is BEng. BTech study lesser modules in order to graduate around the same time as BEng. There are limited choices in NUS cause BTech do not have Electrical and the nearest you can chose is Electronics. However Electronics trade does not needs a PE and you will never become a PE (Electrical) if you study a Electronics Degree. If you are talking about Mechanical, both BTech and BEng is recognized by PEB Sg.

For NTU, BEng (both FT & PT) study about the same amount of modules which mean PT will graduate much later than their FT peers. The challenge for PT is can you cope with FT work and family commitment when there are situation where you will not have time to study for exams or even turn up for class to ensure you meet the attendance requirement for exams.

In Singapore, CET (PT) courses from ITE and Polytechnics are different from FT. For example apart from SP and NP, EMA do not recognized other diploma for Electrical Technician Licence. For NTU (Both FT & PT) and NUS BEng (FT), they do not recognized CET Diploma. Even for NUS BTech, you needs to top up BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs) in NUS before they consider your application. In term of employment, there are CET Diploma graduates who complain about having problem in getting a Polytechnic Diploma jobs or get their Employers to recognized their Polytechnic Diploma which may influence Employers on PT degree from local university too.

In globalization such as country like Australia, BTech is a three-year exit point from the four-year BEng degree. BTech may not be recognized for their PE. So when you do conversion for recognition, the mode of study, name of your university, name of course, name and amount of modules play a big part.

---------------------------------

For accounting, in the first place there is no PT course in local university. If you are taking about private school, that is a different topic together. For example, professional certificate like ACCA and academic certificate like Accounting Degree is different things that may or not lead to'practicing certificate' like CA Sg. So you needs to state in details in order for other to give you an appropriate advice rather than general advice.

You are right, my mistake for overlook it.

-------------------------------

I will add on for Herpaderpus.

FT accountancy professional major students are required to complete 200 credit units (cu) while PT only needs 180 cu to graduate for SUSS.

But FT allow you to have more contact time for lessons compare to PT which is the reason why PT will graduate later than FT. Not forgetting the challenge for PT is can you cope with FT work and family commitment when there are situation where you will not have time to study for exams or even turn up for class to ensure you meet the attendance requirement for exams.

End day, all 5 local universities allow you to take CA Sg. But if you are talking about recognition for employment, government/public sector or even employers in private sector still prefer NUS/NTU/SMU over SUSS/SIT (STUD did not have accounting degree, so I did not list out here).

SUSS FT and PT same same 6 lessons for most modules

PT capped at 20cu per semester

Even at full load (max 40cu per year) you still need 4 years to complete. I think FT also same.

I did not read in detail but to graduate, PT students are required to complete a total of 170 credit units (cu) of courses, inclusive of 10 cu of university core courses.

http://www.suss.edu.sg/programmes/programme-details/Pages/Bachelor-of-Accountancy.aspx

For FT, they will also be required to complete the non-credit but compulsory programme components: overseas experience, work attachment and service-learning. Accountancy professional major students are required to complete 200 credit units (cu).

For those who are interested, can read up more from the links.
