Hi,

Anyone know what is the difference between mi max 2 (export set) vs singtel local set ? Those who purchase mi max 2 from singtel, is GLOBAL rom installed and r u able to update the rom to the latest version release from xiaomi?

I own a huwei phone (purchase from singtel), and consult singtel why my huawei phone sooo long no update, and upon checking, they told me mine is telco registered device and it is differ to other device. So i have the mentality that any china phone bought from singtel will receive updates less often (or might not even have) than if we bought elsewhere such as export set.

Hence my above question.

For most Singaporeans, using their phones in Singapore and most countries (travelling), China ROM and global ROM are similar. IF you are in China using China Telecom network, then u need China set because China Telecom uses CDMA network for voice (1xRTT) and LTE for data. Global set phones & global ROM & EU ROMS (developer/stable ROM) cannot support China Telecom.

I have limited experience with Huawei but almost all other brands that I know of doesn't prohibit you from updating.

The problem is most phone makers will stop their support for certain models when new models are launched, leading to the "can't find updates" issue.

My 2012 Samsung S3 is on Android 7 with security updates even after Samsung has stopped support for it long ago.

My suggestion is to buy a phone that has excellent after market support from the community. A piece of hardware can last a long time like my S3 and Note 1 (2011).

China ROM does not come with Google play store so you have ti install them separately.
