Difference between overseas degree and local private degree,

Hi,
I am now in my final year in poly and intending to further my studies.

However, I do not know the differences between local private degree cert and overseas degree cert.

Public sector usually do not hire DL(distance learning) grads. Even if they do, its very few. You will have higher chances if you grad from overseas uni. Best chance is of course local grad. Then again. Which overseas uni you looking at? Not all overseas uni are the same. Some are seen as better than local uni while most are not.

You must strike a balance between duration and quality. Don't jump for the uni that gives you the most exemptions. No point if you come back and find out that your degree is worthless. If you invest in those one or two extra years in a longer course, you may find that your degree is worth exponentially more a short 1-year degree. What patryn says is right, typically, the shorter the duration, the less worth the degree has.

Find out which unis/institute offers that line and are good and then make a list between local and overseas

below 3.0 is what? 2.0 or 2.9? what is your budget?

yes overseas Uni do offer exemptions if U have decent GPA. 2.8 or so perhaps can get 1yr off in some OZ Uni. then its an 2 yr degree.

UQ would cost U ~aud$100K or ~sgd$120k.

WELCOME - The Hotel School Sydney - SCU

U can find a few Uni offering Biz and Tourism. Best of all they are tuition free but the cost of living for 3yrs is ~eur$30-40k.
Issue is they don't give exemptions. There is a HWZ member went there and just graduated recently. iirc he found a job here in like 3mth.

My GPA is currently around 2.8.

Blue Mountain International Hotel Management School is one of the school that I've been recommended.
And for my diploma, I am able to get some exemptions.

Degree course: International Hotel and Resort Management Degree
Course Duration: 1 - 1 year 3 months + 6 months internship (2.5 years without exemptions)

Any take on this recommendation given?

most of my friends going for business management degree instead as it is more general.

and if you want work in hotel i think getting a job with a dip then slowly get years experience then get a part time degree to climb the ladder is a better path .
as hotel industry is all about experience rather than a degree

agree with this. a business degree will leave you with more opportunities. you don't need a hotel-related degree to work in a hotel.

Agree on this. My fren just graduated from SIT UNLV. Currently working in a famous hotel, but the pay is very low. Other hotels also offer similar pay of less than 2.3k for a degree holder. I really think its not worth to get degree and work in hotel....

I wud think it is not worth it to go aust for a degree as such.

go get a marketing degree or a commerce degree with marketing major. that shud suffice for u to continue in that industry. or not

if u were to spend > 50k for a degree. with a pay no more than 3k for first 5 years. not worth it. u will take 3-4 years to save that amount and honestly it is not worth it. I spend nearly 10 years and I still have about 40k debt of tut fees left to repay from a 120k sum
