Difference in server and pc ram

Hi guys will like to check is there a difference between a ram used in server compare with normal desktop ram ?

Basically if you're thinking of buying server ram cheap from Amazon instead of more expensive consumer ram, you can't use them and that's why they are cheap.

the diff is in ecc. my asrock mobo has support to run ecc ram in non ecc mode. so theoretically can use server ram. but i didn't try.

without going into technical details there is no difference
some pc or workstations can use ecc ram
servers can use non-ecc rams as well
only difference is price and manufacturer part number

if want to go into details there is timing, single rank, etc

I believe "registered" and "buffered" should be among the thing to be wary of even if not going into technical.

Advice in post #3 still stands. And only listen to people who can show you it works and not just theory talk.
